Publisher's summary

Most incidents and accidents are down to "human error". Unfortunately, human error is normal and common, and we can't get rid of it. However, we can reduce the likelihood of one of those - "oh shit moments" - if we have an understanding of human factors and develop our non-technical skills.

This is a globally unique book containing decades of research and practice from high-risk domains translated into the world of recreational and technical diving. This is done through the use of numerous detailed case studies to highlight the value and applicability of these skills.

This book is a must for all divers who want to manage their risks more effectively and have fun in the process.

Perfect for the professional looking to better their understanding

As a new diving professional instructs higher level public safety diverse on a regular basis this book helps me to understand why my students make very simple steaks that should not be overlooked and gave me an amazing framework on how to critique and talk about issues we are having without making them feel bad. I recommend this book to any professional in any industry who is trying to better their understanding of human factor in any complex team or decision making process

hold your breath

i started listening to this book and found the stories outside my life experiences and environment but the lessons prestemted were well organized and made interesting. plus several of my favorite behavioral scientists and heros were referenced. loved the liten, also ordered the book as there were several things that i feel i need to both see and explore in greater depth.

Great book on why we do what we do

Not just for divers. A great read that list of applications, not just for diving. He breaks down how and why we often make the choices that we do and helps us understand how to do it better. Could be very dry, but he manages to make it interesting enough that I kept listening. Well worth the time.

Great stuff!

This is a great book, covers just about everything. Great book to listen to or even give to your Shop staff to think and ponder. Love how he puts "challenge everything"

Like exciting things & don't want to get dead?

Listen to to this. Cockpit Resource Magmt in aviation resulted in much improved safety & then moved into medicine, SEAL teams & board rooms. Kahneman & Tversky's groundbreaking behavioral research for the Israeli Air Force is foundational to the material presented here
