Publisher's summary

"[Narrator Heath] Miller's pacing is superb as he flawlessly depicts each character in this bizarre world."—AudioFile on Along the Saltwise Sea

Under the Smokestrewn Sky is the series finale of the 4-book Up-and-Under series, written by bestselling author Seanan McGuire under the open pseudonym A. Deborah Baker.

Since stumbling from their world into the Up and Under, Avery and Zib have walked the improbable road across forests, seas and skies, finding friends in the unlikeliest of places and enemies great in number, as they make their way toward the Impossible City in the hope of finding their way home.

But the final part of their journey is filled with danger and demise. Not everyone will make it through unscathed. Not everyone will make it through alive.

The final part of the enchanting Up-and-Under quartet reminds us of the value of friendship and the price one sometimes pays for straying from the path. No-one’s safety can be guaranteed under the smokestrewn sky.

Deft and delightful

Ah, I would listen to so many tales of the Up-and-Under, but this was a satisfying episode to close with. The writing is warm and engaging without ever talking down to the reader. Heath Miller beings life to each character, as well as setting the mood and the tone as the narrator. Superb storytelling all around.

A perfect series

I want more. I want SO much more. Maybe if we’re lucky there will be another series. But until then this alchemical journey is over and what a trip it’s been. I envy the children who read these as their first portal books. Heath Miller as always does a brilliant job with the narration bringing warmth and depth to the characters. The journey has a satisfying ending even with the appropriate sacrifices. It’s hard to talk a series when you don’t want to give spoilers. The entire series is an amazing accompaniment to MiddleGame and its sidequels. I hope that the hints that this might continue will be much more than hints.
Please buy this series the more it sells the more likely we’ll get more stories ❤️

thought provoking and beautiful. Heath Miller did a fantastic job with the narration. I would like more stories of Zib and Avery in the up and under

The Up and Under

I love these books. I was so scared it was going to end badly. A lot of unexpected plot twists for the finale. I love at the end how it says “it’s time for all good stars to go to bed.”

beautiful satisfying ear candy

im usually pickly about a story being a little unfocused and airy but this is an exceptionall exception. This is a rich book and a children's book, what ever you think that means to you and yours.
