Acerca de esta escucha

Ghosts are real, and they’re watching over their families. Sometimes, that’s a good thing. But not for the Evanses.

Tennessee Evans comes from a long, undistinguished line of crooks, grifters, layabouts, and rascals. She’s made her share of mistakes, sure, but she’s trying to break the mold. Even after a contentious breakup that hits her emotionally and financially, she works hard, keeps her head up, and carries on.

Then her ex winds up murdered in her backyard. And her prints are all over the murder weapon. She didn’t do it, but no one believes her.

Especially not the pigheaded, infuriatingly hot lead detective investigating the case. On the contrary, she seems to have it out for Tennessee.

Tennessee knows she needs help, and she needs it fast. What she doesn’t know is that the ancestral spirit council is on the job. Which is probably for the best, since their last few missions have ended in disaster – and the odd, accidental death. (Sorry about that, Jane!)

The council dispatches a 20th century American tax expert and an 18th century British criminal to tackle the case. Whether the pair can put aside centuries of personal and cultural differences to save Tennessee is anyone’s guess.

But one thing’s for sure – Marshmeadow will never be the same after this ill-advised haunting!

A supernatural cozy mystery with outrageous shenanigans, cute dogs, found family, a slow burn lesbian romance, and an old, definitely haunted house full of secrets.

The book and the narration were good. Ancestors helping solve a murder from beyond the grave. Elderly neighbors keeping an eye out for their young neighbor, in a smalltown in Wisconsin.

If you are looking for mystery, murder, ghosts and some light humor, this book is for you.

Tennessee inherited a house but has issues when she is a suspect in her ex's murder. This is a cozy mystery worth listening to.

Uninvited House Ghosts: A sapphic paranormal cozy mystery (East House Mysteries Book 1), my forty-ninth read from author Rachel Ford. This time Ford delves into the ghost mystery genre and with somewhat less success than her normal writing. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

I was very entertained by this story. I felt for Tennessee Evans as she was suffering from a serious break-up only to find the body of her ex in her backyard, and since the murder weapon had her prints, she became the prime suspect. I enjoyed the two agents sent from the ancestral spirit council to help Tennessee, and I appreciated their interactions which often caused me to smile. I liked all the surprising events which culminated into the solution. I thought Naomi Rose-Mock's narration started out a little choppy, but her performance improved as the story progressed. I liked all the various voices she portrayed. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Enjoyed The Ancestral Spirit Council

There is a mix of supernatural, mystery and fun. It turns out to be a great combination. Looking forward to more. The narrator did a great job.

This book was definitely unique in that it combined both murder mystery and supernatural genres, but it also did so without combining them, so to speak. Many books will utilize dual pov, but I've not before read one that did so with characters that could not directly interact with each other.

In UHG, the main character, Tennessee Evans comes home after work to find her former fiancée stabbed to death in her back yard. The dead members of the Evans family, going back centuries, convene to decide which spirit(s) will return to earth to assist Tennessee in assuring that she is not convicted of said murder.

As is so common in many supernatural mysteries, and what I was fully expecting, was that the selected ghosts would have some way to be able communicate with her to help her solve the case and prove her innocence. The innovation of the lack of communication, and Rachel's clever ways of forcing herself to find ways around this are what makes this book stand out from what is generally a very full genre, or genres.

This book had a plethora of twists and turns throughout, that keep the reader on their toes, unsure of where it will go next or who the true culprit(s) might be. It was my favorite of Rachel's works that I've read to date and I already picked up and will definitely be jumping into the next book, All Heck Broken Loose, ASAP.

I also want extend a special thank you to Rachel for providing a copy of the audiobook for me to listen to. Naomi Rose-Mock does a very good job with the narration, especially considering nearly half the book is in a male pov. I think my only real issue with the audiobook itself was an editing issue, there were quite a few pauses, either between sentences, or comma breaks, that were far longer than they were written in the text. Otherwise, it was great.

Excellent and unique combining of murder mystery and supernatural genres.

Uninvited House Ghosts is the first in a new series from Rachel Ford. I thought the premise sounded interesting, so when the audiobook came to me I picked it up. It's less a romance and more a cute, cozy mystery, although the seeds of romance were definitely planted for the next book.

The story is from the perspectives of Tennessee Evans and her ancestor Raymond, one of two ghosts dispatched to assist her. I really liked Tennessee, and the banter between the two ghosts was a lot of fun and added some levity to what could have actually been a pretty heavy book. I liked that it stayed fairly light, and the mystery was not too complex but not telegraphed, either.

The audio performance was good, definitely better than some of the other audiobooks I've listened to from Rachel's catalogue. While it didn't blow me away (there were quite a few pauses and places where the rhythm of the speech felt a little awkward), I did think she did a good job of differentiating characters, and I'd listen to her again.

I received a free ALC from StoryOrigin, but my review is unbiased and left voluntarily.
