About this listen

We longed. We lost. We loved. Desperately.

I thought I had my life all figured out. But after a college football accident leaves me deaf, I was learning how to live all over again.

I expected the anger, the frustration, and the struggle to readjust, but what I didn't expect to happen amongst the chaos, was to fall in love.

Especially not with two men.

Rough-edged puzzle pieces, Rhys, Samuel, and I were nothing but aching memories, painful realities, and hidden scars.

We were products of our pasts, abandoned and unloved, messy and complicated. Individually we had baggage; together we had mountains to climb.

But when the three of us were tangled up in one another, spilling secrets in the dark, hearts beating in sync, nothing else mattered but them.

We needed to break the cycle, because they deserved love.

And who knows, maybe I finally did too.

That was a good book.

Coming off a string of bad or mediocre books makes me appreciate good writing even more. I want to know more about all the characters we have met in this world, the ones who have books and the ones who maybe don’t yet. I feel attached to these fictional people and want to see them happy and thriving.
I also found myself appreciating the craft that is Marley’s writing, the way she told the story, the style of it. I enjoyed the device weaving throughout and bookending the story. That will mean something to you after you read or listen.

My only complaint is about the narration, and it is a small gripe. These are all very good voice actors and names I am happy to see when I’m shopping my next listen. No shade to any of them. Their performances were spot on. The problem is that their voices are quite similar. I find it easier to delineate characters when there is more contrast between voices. Especially in this case, with duet narration for the mains, but the same three voicing all the side characters. I found myself sometimes having to think about whose voice was speaking. If I’m the only one, that’s a me problem, but if others feel the same, it might be a consideration for future casting decisions.

Don’t let that put you off grabbing this book. It is well worth your time.

Wonderful story, wonderful performance

Take 3 of my favorite male narrators and have them perform in duet a title from a very talented author like Marley and you get perfection. I'm sure it's an amazing experience to find love with 1 other person....If you can find it with 2...take it and hold on!

4 starz - worthy of a repeat listen

Wish it was longer

There were a lot of layers to this book. There is insta love/connection which is not my favorite, but with the length of this book it did fit. (Also, no 3rd act break-up)

With the layers of family trauma, alcohol, sudden disability and sexual awakening/awareness and building character growth. I wish this book was a bit longer to really give the emotional impact on all of these layers. The storyline itself and plot were wonderful and I love that the focus was not solely on the struggle of the sexuality's but the other things in their life's. With all that was layered in I had a harder time feeling connected to all 3 throughout the story. I would start to have the emotional connection to one and then the POV change would have me losing it to connect to the other. I really wanted to be shredded for each of them, but there was an event that completely tore my heart for one.

Loved this so much!!

Lennox, Rhys, and Sammy. I loved every moment of their story. Marley has done it once again with these three. Zach, JF and Michael were amazing together as well. I laughed, I cried, my heart broke several times while listening to this and I didn't want to put it down.

An emotional messy relationship you need.

I did book one from this series ages ago but fell straight back into this cast of characters easily. The series centres around a group of foster kids who are now navigating their adult lives and dealing with their own traumas. I love that Marley doesn’t shy away from hard-hitting topics. She has a unique way of writing raw, relatable characters who are flawed and real. They don’t always make the “right” or “wise” choices because they are human and then they have to deal with the consequences of their actions. She piles on the angst, and I ate it all up.

Lennox and Samuel have been friends throughout college, and Reece joins this band of misfits through Arlo the ex of Lennox’s brother. Still with me? Yes, these connections are complex but each has a significant part to play in the overarching story.

To say I felt all the things is an understatement. These voice actors absolutely smash this story. We get Lennox’s frustration with the changes he’s going through, the absolute desolation Samuel feels at Reece’s actions, and the constant self-loathing that Reece just can’t seem to kick. Recorded in duet style it is a delight on the ears.

The narration👏❤🔥

The story was good. The narration was absolutely perfect. Three of the best male narrators, whose voices brought this book to a whole different level. It did however leaving you wanting more of an end. HEA.👏❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
