A lesson in Self Compassion and Accountability

The Path Less Chosen by Matthew Harrison is a story that touched me deeply. I appreciate how Matthew takes an honest look at his life with the compassion of an adult perspective and the comfort of the Holy Ghost. I’ve heard it said that every inmate at some point asks the question, “How did I get here?” Matthew doesn’t casually think about that question in a passing, fleeting way. He goes back in time and looks under every rock and down every crevasse to understand how he made destructive choices.
The Path Less Chosen is a book of self-compassion and accountability. It also made me consider the question, “How have the experiences I’ve had in the past direct the way that I react currently?” This is a compelling book with an inmate who has taken the time to write and publish his story. I honor Matthew’s story and appreciate the gift of lessons learned. He has much to offer us. This is a story that has lingered with me. It is a time well spent, and I highly recommend it.

By the way, I LOVED hearing this story in the Audible form. Lou Del Bianco has a voice that captures the emotion, gravity, and bittersweetness of this story. I really enjoyed this particular narrator. Lou captured the feeling of this story that reading alone would not have done it justice.

Forgiveness and Accountability is your key…

… to making the right choices in life.

Matthew, like most, accepted a “victim mentality” which led to poor choices, relationships and prison.

This is a story of how forgiving others and accepting responsibility for all of your decisions will lead to joy and hope through the atonement of Jesus Christ.

The path of faithful choices is laid out before all of us. None of us are perfect. But we can certainly strive to become Christ/like through our choices and His help.

His judgment of others! Nothing was ever his fault

I do not know if he is guilty or not but I do know he plays victim constantly, I have read nothing but wrongful conviction books and listened to wrongful or possibly wrongful conviction podcasts for the past year or so, this is the first time I was rooting for the system, thinking they got it right…
