Publisher's summary

A long weekend in Dublin. What could possibly go wrong?

John Milton is working in a hotel kitchen while searching for information on the Group Fifteen agent who betrayed him in Russia. His plans are upended when a deadly shooting places an innocent young girl in his path. Aided by an enigmatic woman he meets in the hotel, he rescues the girl and plunges headfirst into a deadly conflict between two criminal families feuding in the run-up to a high-stakes MMA fight.

In the underbelly of the city, where alliances are as brittle as glass, Milton must navigate through treacherous secrets and betrayals, ensuring the safety of the girl while locating the only person who can clear his name. The fight draws closer, the stakes are raised, and survival becomes a race against time.

In a world where loyalty comes with a price, and the truth is often disguised, Milton will have to use all his wits and skills to protect the innocent, uncover the truth, and make it out alive.

Solid Story but left hanging a bit

The story stays true to John Milton and is an interesting portrayal of him. Some good side characters that lend conflict into the story. I was disappointed in the voice of Maria, sound more like Peter Lorre rather than a Brazilian female. I understand the difficulties with audible stories giving voice to written characters, but some are worse than others. For example, first person vs. Third person dialogues.

Just a bit of chaos

4.5 Stars 🌟

We have gotten to the point in this series (22 books and probably half that amount of additional novellas and short stories, not including the spinoffs) where I am never in doubt that the story is going to be good. John Milton just seems to ALWAYS find himself in the middle of a mess -

All. The. Time.

The amazing thing though is that Mr. Dawson continues to create the circumstances that support whatever bit of chaos that John finds himself in - and that it is always a realistic and compelling storyline that never fails to grab and keep my interest. I have no clue how he does it - but he does.

This time, John is in Dublin. After the events of the last book (which are still not resolved to my satisfaction with a certain person...but I digress), anyway, he is back to trying to stay off the grid while also knowing that the Group is back on his tail. Only John could get himself in the middle of a mafia gang war while taking on a temporary job as a sous chef.

This story was pretty straight forward and it is a fairly quick and easy read/listen. The story arc (the one that John found himself in at the hotel) gets resolved in a satisfactory manner, but there is still the over arching storyline regarding the Group and the traitor within the Group that I will be interested in. It always bothers the heck out of me when John gets the blame for things that he hasn't done. He does enough on his own to be responsible for :)

So- another good book and now I will be patiently waiting to see the announcement for book 23.

Ziggy Getting Sloppy, Milton Slows Down, & Dawson Needs to Get Russian Tundra BIOLOGY Right

Always enjoy Dawson's ability to spin a tale and Thorps narration does a great job of capturing most of the charaters' voices, but female voices were of the mark, Maria and Kara as examples. The thugs voices ring true tho. Dawson's tale jumps across thousands of miles, numerous countries, and leaves the reader hanging that he might be caught or Killed by a rogue Group 15 character intent on shutting him up. Milton shows us that he's still got it packing a punch, head butt, and worming his way out of two car crashes. Yet the final moments had me worried he might not escape the clothes of one groups attemp to bring him barm.... We'll done DAWSON.

Not up to standards - full of stereotypes

The only book in the series where I actually rooted for the bad guys.
You can foresee the protagonist’s mistakes a mile away - no intelligent “operative” would commit these errors.
Worse - we are beaten to death by politically correct stereotypes:
Cops - crooked or inept;
Illegal Immigrants - kind and innocent,
Men - bad
Women - good
Father - bad
Mother - good

Got boring fairly quickly.

Another John Milton winner...

I really love this series. It has a great dramatic storyline, fantastic locations, interesting characters and a solid narrator...except this time. The narration of Maria was just plain weird. And a few other narrative misses to boot. Otherwise, it was terrific, as usual. Looking forward to the next book. Highly recommend 👌
