About this listen

Khalani is a prisoner. Takeshi is a guard. Both are slaves to the underground.

Khalani Kanes has never stood on the surface of the earth. In the underground city of Apollo, faith and dreams are as absent as the sun. She longs to visit Genesis, the infamous Domed City and the final place where humanity lives aboveground. But when Khalani is given a life sentence and thrown into prison for a theft she didn't commit, that wish shatters into oblivion.

In Braderhelm Prison, murderers are neighbors, ruthless and cold-blooded guards live to punish, and every second is a battle to survive. She thought the danger lay in befriending criminals and avoiding Takeshi Steele, the nefarious Captain who runs her cell block. But darker traps and secrets await her within the shadows of imprisonment. Khalani's blood will coat the walls in flaming silk before her enemies let her escape to the surface, a feat no one has successfully achieved. If the reclusive and callous Takeshi Steele won't kill Khalani, then the merciless prisoners and her fractured mind will.

Enter Braderhelm Prison, where only the wicked remain.

Scary close to reality

Slow burn but the story itself is the best. The poetry through out hits even harder as you understand the world.

Fantastic!

This book brought me out of my book slump. This is a fairly fast paced fun read. I love me a dystopian society and this doesn’t disappoint. The slow burn tension and banter is fantastic and swoon worthy. Can not WAIT for book 2!!

Huge fan!

First, this is a VERY slow burn, and no spice. So if that’s what you’re looking for, this isn’t it. I love this book, I read it on kindle because the audio and I’m happy I listened to it as well. The story kinda grabs you and pulls you in extremely fast, hardly a slow moments, the the romance is different so the the situation the two mains are in.

I’m so excited to read book 2, that comes out tomorrow. 😍

Us Dark Few Review

This was my first book of this author's and I think she creates a very cool world and characters. There were certain twists I did see coming and some I didn't see coming. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here!

Slow Burn 🔥

Wow! This is the best apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, and dystopian novel I have read yet! Slow burn! The pacing was excellent, and the governor's twist was brilliant. I'm eagerly anticipating the next book and am very curious to find out what happens next.

Very good read!

First time reading this author’s work and I wasn’t disappointed at all. The story was intriguing with dark themes but it still keeps you at the edge of your seat from start to finish. I loved the element of trying to push through and survive because any day might be the last. However, our main female slowly evolves and becomes stronger with the help of a particular male character, who I loved a lot. Yes, he’s the type of male character I root for, flaws and all. I definitely loved the back and forth between them and all their interactions as well as their intensity. I wasn’t expecting their relationship to take a turn in that direction, but I was hoping it would. Loved the shocking ending more and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book in this promising series.

can't wait to read the second book

Nice story, very slow burn yet also fast paced at the same time. The performance was solid. The narrator fit the vibe of the book very well in my opinion. I recommend.

Great Story!

I was honestly going into this not expecting to be super wowed and have a predictable story. But oh my goodness while parts were definitely predictable or cliche it pulled me in and I wasn’t even aware of it. All the sudden I was just obsessed with needing to listen to more. The story reminds me a lot of divergent and Hunger Games but isn’t a rip off of either not even a combination but something only similar in the fact of corrupt governments. Truly felt so original which I feel is hard to do for dystopian stories. I cannot wait to read the next one. I would have loved for a male and female lead to voice act. But the narrator does a good job at fluctuating her voice for different characters so it’s still easy to know who is talking.
