Publisher's summary
There's no going back to Earth. The only way forward is through hell.
After the explosive events surrounding MPF6's destruction on Karkin Four, Wic and his team of daredevil operators join forces with the rebel force known as the Blood Guard. While the Phantoms desire to help relocate human refugees to safer worlds, they're forced to confront a more pressing objective: cut off the head of the beast and keep the Androchidan Empire from enslaving another world.
Wic is immediately flung into the heat of battle, driven by retaliation, a need for justice, and the need to send a message to all other deviant species who'd wish to take advantage of the innocent: don't even think about it.
However, when a convert mission goes sideways, and key Blood Guard operatives turn up missing, Phantom Team must decide just how far they're willing to go to stop an alien species from wreaking havoc in the galaxy.
Tensions mount as the empire's high command closes in for the kill. Lies spread, secrets abound, and betrayal runs like blood in the streets. Will Sir Chuck provide critical intel in time to save the team? Can Wic pull one more hat trick against a world-conquering foe?
Find out in Valley of the Dead, the fifth nail-biting, white-knuckle episode of the acclaimed Ruins of the Earth series by Christopher Hopper and J.N. Chaney.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

From the halls of power in Washington to the vastness of space, the Guild moves closer to outright war as shifting alliances force everyone—including Van—to pick a side, take up arms, and fight. In the expanse of his memory, Perry finds an ancient ship, and an even older war—and neither of those things have truly gone away.

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. In the spring of 1903, locomotive 311, known as the Majestic, carried more than one hundred passengers toward a tunnel through the underbelly of the Canadian Rockies. But then the mouth of the tunnel swallowed the 311 whole, and the train—and everyone on it—was never seen again. Seven years later, a gang of cattle thieves and cutthroats wait on horseback for a train car full of railway cash—a payroll they intend to steal. What they will discover, however, is that the approaching train isn’t the 5409. It’s the missing 311, a train only whispered about around dying campfires.

new and extremely lacking narrator bring back r.c. brey
Disliked the new narrator immensely. voices were horrible especially for the talking gun chuck who was supposed to sound like John Cleese.not even close. took so much longer to get through this episode because it just wasn't as exciting, or entertaining. very very disappointing. probably will end buying any more from this once really good saga. unless they find a better narrator.

Great addition to story arc, Bad narrator.
The story itself sets off right where the last left, and continued on. It continues the narrative and compliments the other three.
Of it wasn't for having spent the time listening to the first ones, I wouldn't have continued due to the narrator. the voices were not good at all, and very hard to distinguish from one another. The entire performance was monotoned and lacked any real emotion for what's supposed to be a riveting Space Military Opera.
obviously, I'll continue with theast book in the series, but I will be doing my best to stay away from this narrator.

New Narrator!
Although the new narrator was not bad it did take some time to get used to him as the previous narrator had already set the tone of the characters and pace of the story line. If this narrator started the series I would have no issues and would still have listened to his narration as he's quite good. However his voice differences particularly for the main character, Chuck, and Hollywood were very different and it distracted from the story line. Also it made Chucks personality flat and the jokes didn't have the affect they did with the previous narrator. Overall, better than decent listen and I will continue the series but I sure do miss the first narrator.

Good continuation But...
Tons of action but the plot took a long time unfold making the story drag, until the end where it fell into place.
Would have preferred keeping with the same narrator for continuity between books.
