About this listen

After 700 years of life, Marguerite Argeneau finally has a career. Well, the start of one, anyway. She's training to be a private investigator, and her first assignment is to find an immortal's mother. It seemed simple enough, until Marguerite wakes up one evening to find herself at the wrong end of a sword. Now she realizes she's in way over her head.

Julius Notte wants to protect Marguerite, and not because someone just tried to take her head off. She doesn't know it yet, but she's his lifemate and he's determined to woo her. It's been over 500 years since he last courted a woman, but surely the techniques haven't changed. Now if only he can keep her alive--so to speak--so they can have that happily-ever-after.

love the story, but not the narrator

I love the story. I have listened to it several times. But I am not fond of Victoria McGee's narrations. Her voice is a bit whispery, she lacks the ability to do accents that resemble the characters background, and everyone comes off a bit prim and overly English.

My only criticism of the story us that Lynsay needs someone to check her stories for consistency over the course of the series. Though the most glaring inconsistency in this book is that Julius tells Margorite about Christian's musical interests in one scene, and cannot even remember the style of music in a later scene.

However, the story is compelling enough to overcome the narration and inconsistencies.

Another one out of the park

loved these stories and after all the couples books I was glad to get this history lesson. I owe every one in paperback and now starting in audible. if that's not proof of what an awesome auth Lyndsey Sands is... that's your loss. But hopefully you will expand this series to your library!

It continues the story from the other books in the series. I have enjoyed the other books. It just continues the story, of the Argeneau family.

It flows and continues the story line of the series.

Which character – as performed by Victoria McGee – was your favorite?

Marguerite has been my favorite. She always knows who would fit together.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The twist that Marguerite was the person they were looking for.

Any additional comments?

I am ready to read the next books in the series.

my favorite of Lynsay Sands books! loved it!

It's amazing how Lynsay Sands brings several books all together in this one book. how pieces from several others neatly fit together once you read this. they all can be read separately of course but it's fun to see characters evolve and Margurite is my favorite character. I love paranormal romance books with a great sense of humor! . This one does not disappoint!

Awful Narration

Quite possibly the worst narration I’ve ever heard. She keeps pausing in the middle of sentences - sometimes more than once in a single sentence!

Finally! The most important story

Yes, yes. The narrator is stilted, and sounds like a bad Elvira imitation. However, when she is not in her “fake vamp narrator voice”, she is excellent. This is just not the story to have a “campy” narrator. Maybe for Vincent’s story...
But this story explains SO much! Don’t skip it. If you can’t deal with her narrator voice, buy the book. I love these stories. The good people always win, in the end. The mystery to be solved is well written and thought out. Ms. Sands does not write the same story over and over with different characters. The stories build on each other. Hints are dropped and show up 3 or 4 stories later. I really enjoy a smart writer who plans ahead. This one is no different.
I made myself “tune out” the narrator voice, and have listened to it several times. It’s really a good story.
