Grim, gritty

The book is well written, funny, and gritty. The narration is superb. It really makes the book come to life.

Murder among friends

Once again this did not disappoint but I wouldn't want to cross anyone of their path. Guess the next book will be about the butcher. Love murder mystery mayhem all rolled into a wonderfully written book. I received this free for an honest review from the author or narrator.

Love the characters!

I've really enjoyed this series so far. I love the originality and the quirkiness of the characters and getting to know the new characters that are added to the town. I also really appreciate the humor in the series. The book is dark, funny, and unique. I listened to the Audible edition narrated by J. Scott Bennett. I loved his narration and his ability to give such unique voices to each of the characters. He makes the characters come alive.

Delilah is back!!!

I have loved every book in this series so far and have eagerly awaited this. While this was just as twisting and twisted as the other 3, I felt like something was missing and I still can't figure out what!!

Plot wise, this sees the mayor and her husband being kidnapped and held for ransom, so of course her in laws have to step in and rescue them, with the help of some mafia men as well. Will they prevail before it's too late and can they figure out who the mastermind is? The plot was just as twisting and dark as previous ones, but I also felt like it was missing the same magic that the previous ones had. Everything seemed to come too easy and I just didn't connect with this as much as I did the others. Saying that, there is still a lot of twists and turns and surprises in it, that will keep you guessing till the end!!

The characters were all as well written and developed as ever. Delilah is back and as twisted as ever. She is allowed to unleash her inner evil a little more in this one and boy is she..... odd ;)

In all, this was a great read, just not as enchanting as the last few!! Going by the ending, you just know that there is more bad things to come to the "good" folk of Cold Hollow, and I for one, say bring it on!!

J. Scott Bennett is definitely becoming a favourite narrator of mine! I'm not long after finishing one of his middle grade books and then, to come into this one and see how he can change into such sick and twisted characters perfectly, was amazing!! He truly knows how to preform and bring each character alive. I highly recommend you try at least one of his books!!!

I was voluntarily provided this free copy by the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Intriguing and Fascinating

If you could sum up Vengeance in three words, what would they be?

Thrilling, Intriguing, Exciting

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Kept me glued. Wanted it to last longer.

Any additional comments?

Another interesting story

I received a free audiobook in exchange for an honest review. This is the fourth instalment in the Cold Hollow series and sees Myrna and Tom get kidnapped. Then the big guns arrive in Cold Hollow.

This story is humorous in places, and you raise your eyebrows in others. It's best to read/listen to the other books before you read this - just so you know the background.

The writing isn't difficult - there's no really sudden plot twists that leave you wondering who the bad guy is .... really, they are all bad guys in Cold Hollow .... but it isn't a straightforward murder mystery. This series is hard to define. Science fiction? Plain Mystery? Neither .... alternate reality, definitely.

I'm getting used to the author's style of writing, although there are some phrasings that don't particularly work for me and may have stopped me from reading the books originally, but she's growing on me.

Overall, I feel this is a feel good, happy ending story with just enough tease to look forward to the next book, and the continuing adventures of the strange town of Cold Hollow.

Great addition to the series

Any additional comments?

Thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable. This is how a Suspense/Thriller should be. So many shorter Suspense/Thriller stories lose their way and are disappointing in the end. That does not happen here. This is an on the edge of your seat, hang on for the ride story just like the previous installments. The whole series is creative and original with a unique, twisted and crazy cast of characters.

Mystery, suspense, humor and horror once again combined into a dark, twisted, engaging and interesting story.

Warning: Never underestimate or cross the Gillette family.

Things don't stay calm in Cold Hollow for very long. The game is on. Myrna and Tom have been taken. The question is by whom and why? When two of their own go missing they will stop at nothing to get them back and serve up their own type of justice. Maurice, Adam and Delilah are back in town to help rescue Myrna and Tom. The bad guys are now the good guys in this situation at least. It's an interesting twist to now have the murderer's, thieves and the mafia the good guys?

Delilah. Oh Delilah, you just have to experience her to understand.

J Scott Bennett once again does a fantastic job with the narration. His voice brings the characters to life the minute the story starts. Clearly spoken with a smooth even pace. Great character voices. Perfect match of narrator and story. Very enjoyable.

Vengeance for All

Enjoy the creepily strange characters of Cold Hollow.

For those who don't know, Cold Hollow is a small, isolated, Vermont town that has a contract to be a sort of half-way home for parolees and former parolees. Many people come here and thrive, others...not so much.

In the fourth Cold Hollow book, the mayor and her husband have been kidnapped for ransom. The new parolee is not at all what he seems to be. And the town is hit by a nor'easter just before Christmas. As you can guess from the title, someone is out for vengeance, and that results in more vengeance, and so forth. It gets complicated (of course), and I'm going to have to listen again to catch all the nuances.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the publisher, author, or narrator. This is my honest opinion.

Why, why, why, Delilah? Tom Jones '66

Would you consider the audio edition of Vengeance to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print or electronic version of "Vengeance: Cold Hollow Mysteries, Book 4" . In the hands of an excellent voice talent such as J. Scott Bennett the characters and story come alive. Especially true on what I classify as entertainment fiction rather than history, for example.

What did you like best about this story?

Coincidently, I received a Audible gift from Emilee J. Howard for Book 3, The Maestro, the previous book in the series almost to the minute of my finishing this work. She thought that The Maestro would fill in the story lead in. And that was correct!
I like the quirky characters, and their motivations were more apparent. So, I would strongly suggest reading / listening to the series in order.

Which character – as performed by J. Scott Bennett – was your favorite?

Each character brings something to the story, Sweeny, Delilah, the "Family" members.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Let me answer with this: there is action and entertaining characters from beginning to end. There are motivations, vengence, for one. Greed, power struggles...

Any additional comments?

Be aware VIOLENCE IS PREVALENT THROUGHOUT. Some language. For me, those issues didn't take away from the action of the story.

This review copy audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost. Which I can only assume was voluntary on their part. I am happy to give my honest review of it. I think I'm suppose to mention how reviewing this was voluntary on my part too.

Cold Vengeance

This book was well written and the characters developed nicely.I was not as into this book because it has little to no supernatural elements. It is about vengeance and death. These people are very happy to take their or your vengeance out on the culprits, no matter how far they need to go.J Scott Bennett does a fine job narrating.I was provided this book free by the author, narrator or publisher.
