Publisher's summary

Roses are red.

Violets are blue.

Forget everything good you’ve been told about love,

Because, none of it’s true.

You don’t agree? Spend a day in my shoes and you’d curse love, too.

My name’s Blue. Yes, you read that right. Blue Daniels.

And I hate love. I despise every single thing about it.

In my 32 years on this Earth, it has brought me nothing but heartbreak and disappointment. Love is a void. Something we’re taught we need if we want to live a happy and fulfilled life.

Well, I disagree.

Some say I’m a cynic. Others call me the smartest woman they’ve ever met. But no matter what anyone says, I know what I need. And love is not it.

Enter Harris Avery.

A man who thinks he can have anyone he wants, including me.

A man who reminds me daily why I swore off love in the first place.

He walks around the office like he owns the place, throwing that sexy smirk of his at every female he passes. He thinks no one is immune to his charm. But poor Mr. Avery has never met a girl like me before.

I’m more likely to throw myself off a bridge than at his feet.

There’s just one problem.

He’s decided to make it his mission to prove me wrong.

To that, I say, "Let the games begin..."

the leopard changes his spots

I went back and forth with my feelings on Harris. In the beginning I found him arrogant and abrasive. A player trying to seduce and flirt his way in. Then I thought he was calculating and manipulative and wore Blue down. In the end, he had a huge heart and was willing to raise another man's child just to have Blue. He had some really chivalrous moments that showed his true colors and I appreciated that aspect. The flowers and poems were cheesy. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

Entertaining

This book was simply lovely and entertaining like a breeze of fresh air. It was my very first read by Melissa Toppen. I was laughing and I was sad and I very much loved the rhymes.
I loved Harris' persistence and Violet's denial, they actually fit like a pair of gloves. From hate to love, from disappointment to happiness. I truly enjoyed the whole story and also the narration was greatly done.

I loved this story!

This contemporary romance was a wonderful story about two people who date on a “bet” with each other. Neither Blue nor Harris seem to be people who would be committed to anybody, but love is just around the corner... if only Blue will let it. The narrator was wonderful and did a great job acting both the female and male POV. I loved the evolution of this relationship as the characters learn to love and take a chance.

This made me smile multiple times

I absolutely loved this story! It just made me smile multiple times. The story is so sweet! He secretly likes her but was told hands off...now he has a chance and he is not going to waste trying to get her to be his...forever. These characters are simply wonderful. He has a poor reputation and she is off love. There is Some challenges made with each other and each thinking they are a shoo in to win. What I love is all the sweet things he does for her to get her to fall for him.

I really enjoyed this! I loved her name (Blue Daniels) his name (Harris) as well as the whole “Roses are Red” notes. There were a couple moments that I didn’t understand why she would do what she did. But que sera sera... I liked the characters and the story. I did listen to this on audio and Leanne Woodward did the narration. She does a good job.

Enjoyable

Melissa Toppen is a new author to me and I am surprised I have not come across her books before. Narrator Leanne Woodward is also new to me.

This is Blue Daniels and Harris Avery story
Although there was some angst there wasn’t too much which was good.

These two should not work as a couple and yet they do. I enjoyed the push and pull dynamics of their relationship. I also liked that Blue was not afraid to stand up for her beliefs.

I loved how all in Harris was and that he was determined to show Blue that he is the one for her; he is totally swoon worthy.

There was humour and romance and the narrator did a good job with her performance.

Will Harris be able to convince Blue? One click and find out.

Persistence and Chivalry

Melissa Toppen did a great job with this office romance. Not withstanding the complexities of dating your coworker, Blue and Harris had a lot to navigate before solidifying a lasting relationship. There were assumptions, misconceptions and avoidance issues to contend with. Thank goodness for Harris’s persistence and chivalry! Blue was very naive and frustrated me with her ability to stick her head in the sand. Her childish behavior and ability to jump to conclusions made me want to shake her!Leanne Woodward is a new narrator for me but she did a wonderful job with her performance!
