About this listen

East Antarctica: the coldest, most desolate location on earth. Two-and-a-half miles below the ice cap is Vostok, a 6,000 square mile liquid lake, over 1,000 feet deep, left untouched for more than 15 million years. Now, marine biologist Zachary Wallace and two other scientists aboard a submersible tethered to a laser will journey 13,000 feet beneath the ice into this unexplored realm to discover Mesozoic life-forms long believed extinct - and an object of immense power responsible for the evolution of modern man.

In this sequel to The Loch and prequel to Meg: Nightstalkers, New York Times best-selling author Steve Alten offers listeners a crossover novel that features characters from two of his most popular series.

Better than I expected - I knew what to expect.

Ok, this one is far removed from The Loc and what Steve is known for. If you are here from The Meg series, this is not needed to move to Nightstalkers, you will understand Nightstalkers without this one. If you know what this book is about, it holds its own well. If you are expecting this to be a typical follow up to a book, in this case The Loc, you might be disappointed. This book should have been a spinoff of The Loc. It has little aside from Zachary to do with the Loc (well Tru and Angus are there also). As a stand alone book it is much more interesting than others give it credit. It is not a monster book: it is about aliens, space and science theory, but even me as just a technician, I enjoyed it and it was not hard to understand. Only a few times did I get lost (some of the String Theory offshoots had me pause and scratch my head), but it did not negate my interest in this story. I was surprised I liked this one. I would like another like this, just not advertised as a sequel to a monster book.

be prepared to be disappointed with the ending

it was a great lesson the story started out great had lots of twists and turns but once I got to the end it felt like it was rushed and he was just trying to hit a deadline. I wish they had covered more stuff and and wrapped up some of the story it felt incomplete and frankly kind of empty but the performance was amazing that shouldn't stop you from at least giving it a listen.

Very well written and read

This story is a great followup to the first book, "The Lock". The story itself as well as the person that reads it aloud work to make a wonderful world where you get lost and can't wait to know what happens next.

Do yourself a tremendous favor and listen into this story. It's well worth the time.

(If you're a curious type, read into the scientific studies within the story. They lead into fascinating intellectual discoveries.)

sequel to the lock

good sequel to the lock. with a merging with the Meg. interesting book. combining some quasi-religious themes. A touch of Buddhism. giant long-dead mezzo monsters and UFOs and don't forget the shadow government tied up in a neat bow.

iyc narrators rendition of both this and the walk he was great with the accents and with the story in general really brought it alive.

What

I really liked the Loch, this? Whole different story, it’s like a tale of two books. The first half had me but than it went down a rabbit hole and I just couldn’t finish. Really disappointed

Great start...flopped at end

The novel had a great start...consistent storyline...good characters. Then for me it all went down hill. Spiritual time travel...mixing of modern day social and environmental upheavels...evolution mixed with various religions all tied together in a pretty modern new age bow. Too much skipping around in time towards the end made it hard for me to keep track. sometimes too much is too much. This book was not for me.

Near perfection except for religion

I would have given this five stars except for the whole religious bent that cheapened the author's ability to combine our distant past with the future.

Good book

Decent book worth a read. Maybe a little more going on in one book that I would like
