Great Story, Great Audio

What made the experience of listening to WDA Classics Presents O. Henry's The Gift of the Magi the most enjoyable?

W.B. Ward and his voice. He has a very soothing and good voice for audio books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Probably the main girl. She was featured the most and her husband is not in the book very much.

Which character – as performed by W.B. Ward – was your favorite?

I like the way he portrayed the main girl. He did a good job at emulating a woman without making his voice shrill.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was. It is very short and does not take long at all to listen to.

Any additional comments?

Listen to W.B. Ward books. He has a great voice!

Thought Provoking

What did you love best about WDA Classics Presents O. Henry's The Gift of the Magi?

It's a love story with a very deep wisdom.

What was one of the most memorable moments of WDA Classics Presents O. Henry's The Gift of the Magi?

When Della opened her gift and found the combs that she had admired.

What about W.B. Ward’s performance did you like?

easy to understand and follow. (I'm relatively new to audio books and sometimes it's difficult for me to follow w/o having read the book previously.)

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It doesn't seem long enough to be a film.. . but maybe something like Love's Finest Gift.

Any additional comments?

It was an enjoyable listen.

Wisdom in Love

Would you consider the audio edition of WDA Classics Presents O. Henry's The Gift of the Magi to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version.

What was one of the most memorable moments of WDA Classics Presents O. Henry's The Gift of the Magi?

The moment Della got her inspiration to sell her hair for money for Jim's gift.

Which character – as performed by W.B. Ward – was your favorite?

Although Della is the main character for most of the book, Jim is my favorite. We learn much about Jim through Della's love for him. If he is worth selling her most prized possession, he must be something special!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Della told the woman to give her the money quickly, she was at the point of no return. When Jim came home and embraced Della, it is evident that, even through her babbling, he realized how much she loved him. Her hair would grow again, but his watch was gone. In that, it is evident how much he loved her.

Any additional comments?

As usual, W.B. Ward's reading brings the manuscript to life!

A true love story

This has always been one of my favorite stories. The love and sacrifice this young couple show for each other is both heartwarming and heart wrenching. I listened to it twice, and was brought to tears each time! W. B. Ward once again gives a stellar narration. He has an uncanny knack of drawing the listener in and feeling as if they are an unseen observer of the unfolding events. This was a pleasurable listen that I highly recommend!

A classic Christmas tale of love and sacrifice

This is a great short tale for all ages. It brings home what sacrifices those in love are willing to do for one another. The Narrator spins this tale with a old country style, like that of a uncle telling stories as the children gather around the fireplace awaiting Christmas dinner. Highly recommended!
