About this listen

A CHILLING NORFOLK BROADS CRIME THRILLER!

A convicted psychopath with an early release, a couple found butchered on board their boat, and a twelve-year-old boy, hiding in fear or already lying dead.

Struggling with his new role as a detective chief inspector, John Tanner is warned of a convicted psychopath’s early release. When a couple is found later that day; the man stabbed to death, the woman with her throat cut, he's forced to assume the convict is responsible. But when the male victim turns out to be heir to a global pharmaceutical company, and his twelve-year-old son is nowhere to be found, he has to start looking closer at the victim’s family, and their sprawling stately ancestral home.

Set within the mysterious beauty of the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a dark cozy Norfolk murder mystery with a slice of humour and a touch of romance, one that will have you guessing until the very end, when the last shocking twist is finally revealed.

First time I guessed right

Excellent series of books and characters. Well written and for the first time I guessed the killer correctly. Only took me to the 9th book ;) Great listen due to narrator and story.

Enjoyed it a lot

One of Blake’s best.

Thoroughly enjoyed the story. Almost impossible to stop listening to Keeble’s narration. Plus incredible humour despite the subject matter

Well done mystery - First 5 star in series for me

It was the typical Tanner, losing his temper which clouds his judgement, drinking too much and making stupid choices. I have not been happy with the storyline with the Christine romance. She should have just been a rebound interest after Jenny's death and be gone by now. Instead Tanner knocked her up and she seems to enable his behavior. There could have been more to the other charaters in this story, so none of them really evolved. It was nice that they introduced a new character and I think she could prove to be very interesting. Despite the fact that the characters are not that likeable, the story was well done, and I just wasn't sure which way it was going to go. There are a few shockers. For some reason, the author obessed with men wanking out to dead women and tired of the use of threadbare in literally every book. This one well worth the read.

Keystone cops

An unbelievably bumbling investigation by a detective prone to jumping to conclusions, generally acting impetuously and arresting a woman for a murder that never happened while his team act as though they are motivated by teenage hormones rather than by any interest in solving murders.

Terrible; SCREAMING NARRATOR; incompetent DCI

Terrible narrator screamed the book with an annoying gravelly voice that kept cracking. Some of this was due to the constant screaming of the lead character who has the emotional maturity of a two year old and throws tantrums because he’s cracking under the pressure of being promoted to DCI.
