Publisher's summary

Just when his life seemed to be getting back on track, Detective Zach Forrest finds himself in the midst of a whirlwind of treachery, lies, and mayhem that threatens to unravel the delicate balance of power in Easytown.

Everything comes crashing down on Forrest when a rampaging cyborg attacks him, disrupting his investigation into the death of a lowly thumper club doorman who knew too much. Before he can determine his next move, a beautiful, mysterious evidence clerk lands on his doorstep, forcing her way into his life despite the NOPD's rules against fraternization.

Meanwhile, to combat the rapidly increasing number of cybernetically enhanced criminals, the police chief assigns him the difficult task of tracking down and stopping the street doctors who build the abominations at any cost.

But, will it cost Zach more than he'd expected?

The future has arrived...

West End Droids & East End Dames (Easytown Novels, Book 3) by Brian Parker and narrated by Daniel Penz has a noir feel to it. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect and glad I took a chance with it. If you enjoy cyberpunk, this is your typical read, or you’re looking for something new in the genre, give this book a try.

What’s it about? Zach’s job is in jeopardy and he must find those responsible while dealing with cyborgs, corruption, drugs, a deteriorating love life, brothels, and more. If you enjoy books with droids, crime, detectives, AI, and futuristic tech, this is a book for you. I enjoyed his AI partner (or sorts) the most. Sometimes I wanted a little more from certain scenes, but it is what it is. Great world building!

The narrator, Daniel Penz, did a great job! I would listen to him again.

Despite not listening the first two books in the series, I was able to jump right in and understand what was happening. Overall, it kept my interest and made me want to know more about the world/Zach’s history. I’m a bit disappointed to learn this is the last book in the series (hoping this isn’t true) as the ending leaves some things open for the possibility of more. Ended up listening to this in two sittings, but only because I had to sleep.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: swearing (throughout), death, guns and other like weapons, prostitution, drugs, and other similar situations.

West End Droids & East End Dames Easytown Novels,

Detective Zack Forrest is a non comformist. which makes life as a detective interesting and dangeous. He and his partner are on a simple investigation In the course of the investigation they are attacked by a cyborg. After a lengthy battle they manage to stop the killer. Zack's detective life takes on a life of it's own as if it's going downhill with no brakes. One case after another which seem to integrate together. Zack goes from one fast track to another as he follows clues, hints and snitches. Then a woman in one of the other departments takes a shine to him just after his girlfriend leaves him. Now he's got case after case with the added pleasure (maybe) of a woman who is definitely out to "catch" him. Then word reaches him that IA is trying to end his career. Now it's cases after case with a bulldog of a woman after him and IA bringing up the rear. Who's going to win? Lose?
Daniel Penz is remarkable as Zack and totally brings this detective to life.

Sad to see the series end

I ordered book three the very day that I finished book two. I know that was to be the last in the series and I was chopping at the bit to get back into Easytown.

This was not my favorite of the three books but it was still most excellent. Zach Forest was not as clever or on his game as much in this but it lead to a very satisfying end to the saga.

I'm going to miss Daniel Penz in my ear with his smooth, rough, and sometimes quizzical delivery as Zach Forest. He made the charm that is Zach very charming indeed.

Fun series

Great addition to the trilogy
A typical day in the life for Zach only now he has human cyborgs and drug manufacturers to deal with
Daniels narration has been stellar in all three books
One of many entertaining series from Brian Parker highly recommended

West End Droids

Another great book in an amazingly entertaining series. Detective Zach Forest continues to be his typical hardass, rule breaking self, trying to find out who is doing illegal cybernetic enhancements and supplying Easytown with an addicting drug. Along the way, he encounters cyborgs and beautiful women (of course!) while endangering his career with the NOPD.

If you are looking for a well-written cyberpunk series with traces of noir detective novels, this is the one you need to read or listen to. While set in a futuristic New Orleans, it contains hints of detectives like Sam Spade, complete with Zach's penchant for fedora hats.

Brian Parker has developed a world full of droids, clones, cyborgs, drones and artificial intelligence, all of which seem believable and demand to be made into a movie. His characters are well-developed and I feel like I know Zach and friends. The Detective is determined to solve cases at the expense of love, life and limb, and his stubborn insistence on doing so causes him many problems. His snarky attitude and quips, even during times of extreme pain and duress, make him one of my favorite characters in current books.

The ending hints at further books in the series (YEAH!) and I look forward to following Zach's adventures. The narrator, Daniel Penz, does an absolutely awesome job, with perfect pacing and voices that perfectly match the characters. His performance added a lot to my listening enjoyment.

Easy Town!

I received this from Audiobook Boom in exchange for an honest review.

Another great entry in the Easytown series, but bittersweet. This one, like the first two, ties all of the wild plot lines into a satisfying ending. And what an exciting ending! I will say that it wasn't unexpected, but I was hoping that it would end in different fashion.

Here's one reader hoping that this isn't the last we hear of Easy Town!

Another great addition to the Easytown Novels

*This book was given to me by the author at my request, and I provided this voluntary review.*

4/ 5

I have had the wonderful opportunity to read all of Parker's books in this series for a voluntary review, and this book is no exception. Forrest's character is on point and progressing, much to where I thought it would go. I felt this story was a bit weaker than the last ones action and content-wise, but it was definitely a stepping stone to a future set of books in Easytown - no spoilers. Per usual, the audiobook performance was superb; however, I am a bit miffed by the voicing for Tommy Voodoo. He not only sounded meek and not his usual self, the actual voice acting sounded... strange, like not the usual Tommy Voodoo that we heard in the last 2 books. Above all else, this is a solid addition to the Easytown novels.

Anyway, I still love when he yells at Andi.. :D

Highly recommend.

Wonderful series, and this book is no exception!

I loved the other Easytown Novels... they were just fantastic, and this book is no exception! There's the classic, gritty feel that you get when reading a Noir Mystery, while still holding fast to the envisioned futuristic city of New Orleans, and it's truly wonderful... it's a finely crafted juxtaposition of the old and the new!
I've mentioned in other Easytown Novel reviews, that our hardboiled protagonist, Detective Zack Forrest has girl problems, but that's nothing compared to the trouble that he's gotten into with the fairer sex in this tale! In addition to his "women issues", Zack's job is on the line. The powers that be have Zack in their sights, but that's not going  to stop Zack from doing his job. He's gonna stop the manufacture and trade of a highly addictive, toxic street drug! Plus he is dealing with a "chop-shop" that's giving humans illegal cybernetic upgrades!
Daniel Penz has become one of my favorite narrators, primarily due to his stellar work on the Easytown series!  Grab this audiobook, and let Penz take you into Easytown... the dark, underbelly of the New Orleans of the future!
