Publisher's summary

Alice Tisdale doesn't remember her life before her family moved to Westernville in the early 1800s. Their home sprawls over acres of lush farmland. But Alice won't go past the edge of the woods, where shadows loom beneath the trees. Monsters seem to watch her from the ferns. Her parents call it nonsense, but she knows there is evil out there.

When the neighbor's little boy disappears, Alice's family is blamed, even though they had nothing to do with it. Her family laughs off the curse, but one by one, lightning strikes them down. Alice must find the missing child if the Tisdales want a future in Westernville.

Upstate NY Post Revolution Spooky Mystery

A young girl, usually confined to the house, deal with the terrors of upstate New York immediately after the Revolution. I disagree with the narrator's pronunciation of the proper name "Talmadge."

Living in Rural America

This story of mistaken assumptions, homesteading hardships and a streak of bad luck that was probably at last a little supernatural is an interesting story that's part mystery, part historical and just a little bit romance.
Interesting and thought provoking, it's well worth the read, particularly for fans of New York (the state, not the city) history.
Well worth the read.

This was my first Jordan Elizabeth book and I thought it was a great fast mystery. Loved the narrator. I will now start this series from the beginning.

A truly interesting book!

Allison Tisdale fears whatever it is watching her from the woods, but when the neighbors sonVernon goes missing his mother blames the Tisdale’s and after a dire prediction and family 💘 Vernon goes missing his mother blames the Tisdale‘s and after a dire prediction and family members start dying off due to lightning strikes one by one the mystery only heightens and then the mother was going and everyone lived in peace until the day she came back. This was a very interesting book was so good I was glad it was short because I couldn’t stop listening. I love the narrator in the plot and that makes for a perfect listen.
