Publisher's summary

Russ and Anne Mathews live in a rural suburb in Tennessee. Regular people, with regular jobs, living a normal life - except for one thing. They are what many people call "preppers".

They have stocked up on supplies to survive any kind of event they can think of that may occur to disrupt life as they know it. When that event comes, they start preparing for the new way of life they will face. Along with their teenage son, and their next door neighbors and best friends, they plan their exit from a neighborhood too close to the city to a farm in the country. They just have to get there.

Their faith in their own capabilities and in humankind will be challenged, as they fight to protect and keep their supplies and, quite possibly, their lives.

When the Power is Gone is the first book in the A Powerless World Series, dealing with how life might be lived after an EMP. If you like post-apocalyptic fiction, this novel by PA Glaspy is a unique story from a woman's point of view.

Great apocalyptic book and fantastic narrator

I LOVED this book and the narrator was the best!! I look forward to listening to the rest of this series! I am grateful that this awesome series is on audible! I would love also to have it in paperback or hardback book form as a complete book set. I can’t find the prequel anywhere and some of the books that I could find were crazy expensive. Pls make this available as a book set on Amazon at an affordable price! Great job P. A. Glaspy! Loved the book and loved the narrator! Pls keep this kind of books coming.

Simple Tennessee Woman surviving

The author states she just wanted to write a book about a woman like her trying to live in an upside down world. She did a great job at making her a person, making her family people you care about.

Nice prepping novel from woman's perspective

Learned a lot of new prepping stuff as well as appreciated the reminders
regarding things I already knew. Information presented in an interesting
story; nice story line about couple with children, childless couple, single man,
and others. Really appreciated the reminders about protecting women and
children who would seem desirable commodities to predators.

The narrator mostly very good, but in a few places spoke so quickly I could
not follow.

Some things I did not like: Use of coarse language by the main female character.
One scene at a road block where there was a lot of talking; in real life guys do not
stand around talking like women, they say a few words, if it is not resolved, they get
down to fighting. Also at the road block the bad guys gave the good group the finger
and the female character returned it. I am 64 and when someone calls me a !@#$%
or gives me the finger, I do not return the same. The other thing was the double standard
about stealing - it was ok if the good group did it, but not if others did it.

Preps very good, I am going to listen to this book several more times as well as get the
prequel and the next sequel. If I like the next sequel, I will get the third sequel.

The author did achieve her aim to tell the story from a woman's point of view...Loved
the details about personal hygiene, cooking, food storage, animal husbandry, organization...
gal stuff. Mrs. Glaspy correct … male authors spend a lot of time on the military action,
torture and executions; this was nicer about training children, good foot gear, securing your
home, etc.

Awesome

I too was looking for a good apocolyptic book from a woman's point of view. I too even started to write one. But then I found this series. Love the story and the narrator is the best I have heard yet! Can't wait to start 'When the Peace is Gone'.

Very talented writer!!

This was my first audible book. I didn’t know if I would like hearing instead of reading. So glad I picked this book. I was hooked and then had to get When the Peace is Gone. Now having to wait before I can Get When the Pain is Gone. I am so looking forward to more books that you have written!!

NO NO NO!

This book could be a 5 star story but I'll never know because listening to this narrator is like listening to long nails
on a chalkboard, This is nothing more than
a shopping list

Author needs to read up on tactics

The bones of the story are okay but could be even better with some basic work. I want this and other authors to help the SHTF community to learn and not be given poor examples of "tactics".

I hope the author watches some good tactics videos and reads a few tactical books before the next installment. I only say this because I want to like the story and author and appreciate the time that went into it.

There are so many tactical mistakes made in the book the characters would all be dead by chapter six. There is no reasoning with desperate deadly people. Learn what is meant by "there are always other weapons and hidden threats." The characters show almost no tactical skill in spite of some of them allegedly having prior tactical skills training.

The narrator needs to learn about theatrical pause, but if she works on it she could be pretty good with more practice. Slow it down a little, going fast does not add excitement.

Entertaining and informative

I have read and/or listened to a number of books on this topic, some better than others, and what sets this book apart is that it is from a woman's perspective. I have read other's authored by women, but this story has a more realistic and honest feel to it, which makes it more interesting to me - even educational.

I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series and beyond.

Good job P.A. Glaspy!
