Excellent but…

Katie Scarfe.
Wow.

White Silence was my virgin voyage with Katie Scarfe narrating, and she was perfect. She is rivaling Julia Whelan as my favorite narrator now. I’d have to say she made this book much better than if I’d read it. I love Jodi Taylor, but this was not one of her best efforts by any means. There were subplots and characters that felt out of place, and at times the story of Elizabeth was slow for me. I wonder if it’s part of setting up book two. Speaking of book two, I bought it. While White Silence is not Jodi Taylor’s best effort, it’s still much better than many other works out there for my tastes. However, I am left to wonder why Katie Scarfe is not returning as narrator. When I found out someone else was narrating Dark Light my heart sank. Nothing against book two narrator, but the bar is set really high now.

With all said, I’d suggest White Silence to anyone who enjoys good story telling and is familiar with Jodi Taylor. If you are new to Jodi Taylor, I’d suggest St Mary’s or Frogmorton first.

Love the Twists and Turns

Couldn't put this book down. Unlike most books, I couldn't have predicted where this one was headed for long. Hurry up and write the sequel(s) please!

Wow

There’s twists turns and I just wow you must read this book! It’s so good. Lies on top of lies hidden in deception. A whole persons life planned out and then controls lost all across the board. So good!

Jodi Taylor is a failsafe choice

Jodi Taylor delivers again with a twist away from time travel...mostly. She keeps you on the edge of your seat and forces you to stay up half the night because you cannot switch it off. Kate Scarfe was brilliant. I have to say I'm not loving the switch of narrator in the second book.

Gahhhhhh. Jones. You silly man.

I hate you and love you for the story and feelings you have provoked in my mind. I cannot stop thinking about where this story goes.

Stupidity isn't suspense

I'd had high hopes, because I love the St. Mary's and Time Police books, but was very disappointed in this story.

***** SPOILER ALERTS!!!! *****

Elizabeth's escape from the facility was abrupt and way too easy. But the truly devastating disappointment was when she kept "not understanding" Ted's messages. All along, it had been shown in many ways how much Ted loved and protected her -- suddenly she thinks he's a vengeful spirit?!? And her willful self-deceit in giving free rein to "the thing in her head" when she had hitherto been self-aware and spent her life keeping that power tamped down?? Such crap. During the rest of the book, she's shown her cleverness and her consuming self-preservation, but suddenly she turns into a 19th century femme fatale who can't figure anything out for herself. Extremely frustrating.

Also... what kind of bullshit NON-ENDING was that?!?

So much imagination from this author

I don't know how Jodi Taylor comes up with these wonderful and different stories. This is the same Taylor that creates loveable characters and witty banter. But this book has deliciously chilling paranormal undertones. It's different and the same. I recommend unless you're going to be spending lots of time alone in the dark when you listen and you get easily spooked. I don't read or listen to scary books and I did fine but I can see how in the wrong circumstances there were a few places when I might have gotten uncomfortably scared.

Where do you turn when there's no one you trust?

Elizabeth Ford Cage, adopted at a young age by a loving couple who knew there was something special about her. Something they didn't pretend to understand. So then, in puberty, when she realized that she just "knew" things and asked the natural questions, her quiet and loving Dad encouraged her to just ignore it and perhaps it would go away. But when you have a "gift" it is part of you and Elizabeth finds out just how big a part of her it is when her back is to the proverbial wall!

Elizabeth has spent her life trying to keep the thing that lives in her head asleep. She works at a mundane job until she meets and marries Ted, a policeman (or so she thinks) and their lives together are warm, loving and uneventful. She knows that she can see the aura, or the "colors" of everyone she sees, and through their colors she can tell pretty much everything about them. She has shared this gift/curse with NO ONE though as she does not want any undue attention either from the general public nor from the other side. Alas, Dr. Sorenson or is it the Universe that has other plans?

When Elizabeth's husband Ted, is killed abruptly and she finds herself held captive at Sorenson Clinic her entire life and her abilities are on display. If not for the all too timely intervention of another "resident" at Sorenson Clinic Elizabeth would certainly have never returned to her home. Michael Jones is a fast and very capapble friend in her time of need, fascilitating her escape from and possibly her return to Sorenson Clinic. In between though she begins to find out what her life will look like without Ted and almost settles back into being "unknown"......

This book is a good read, and it does have many interesting twists and turns as promised in the advertising.

Decent story, fun twists, odd ending.

What did you like best about this story?

I would have given a 5 star on the story, but the ending is so odd, I felt a bit disappointed. Don't read the last chapter, and I think it's a wonderful book, a little spooky, a little espionage, a little mystery.
