About this listen

Being the parent of a smart child is great - until your son or daughter starts asking whether global warming is real, if you are going to die, and what will happen if they don't get into college. Kids who are advanced intellectually often let their imaginations run wild and experience fears beyond their years. So what can you do to help?

In Why Smart Kids Worry, Allison Edwards guides you through the mental and emotional process of where your child's fears come from and why they are so hard to move past. Edwards focuses on how to parent a child who is both smart and anxious and brings her years of experience as a therapist to give you the answers to questions such as:

  • How do smart kids think differently?
  • Should I let my child watch the nightly news on TV?
  • How do I answer questions about terrorists, hurricanes, and other scary subjects?

Edwards's 15 specially designed tools for helping smart kids manage their fears will help you and your child work together to help him or her to become more relaxed and worry-free.

Nailed it and then some…

I’m really glad that I had someone recommend this book. They said it would explain our daughter to us a little bit because she’s so smart. Every moment I thought oh she doesn’t worry about these things within a few days I would hear her and she would bring up some thing that was talked about in the book. If you have a smart kid it is well worth listening to this book just so that you understand what they’re going through and why they little minds are working a mile a minute when yours didn’t maybe do that the same way. I look forward to reading other books by her around this topic or others.

A pragmatic book with great voice and compassion

This book is not only full of actionable tools to help your child grow with their anxiety, but a wide lense view of child psychology that puts the use of these tools into perspective.

Helped not only my child but me too

I found the tools really helpful and my daughter's anxiety has been manageable for her. I also found it helped us communicate better because i understand where she is at. I found some of the tools useful for myself as well, why i have anxiety, how we process it is different. This book bridged the gap for us.

real talk and answers!

The book had so many examples that I could relate with and then solutions. I will definitely be buying a hard copy as a reference.

Super Relatable

One of our children has quite a bit of anxiety, and there were many aspects in this book that are easily relatable.
