Publisher's summary

Smarter in sixty minutes.

Get smarter in just 60 minutes with in60Learning. Concise and elegantly written nonfiction books and audiobooks help you learn the core subject matter in 20 percent of the time that it takes to read a typical book. Life is short, so explore a multitude of fascinating historical, biographical, scientific, political, and financial topics in only an hour each.

William Wallace started out as a humble knight, but he died a war hero. He gave up everything in his fight for Scottish freedom, including his life. When captured, Wallace was hung, drawn, and quartered by the English king for crimes against the crown. Though he was memorialized in the 1995 film Braveheart, this book tells how much of what we associate with Wallace is more legend than fact. Still, the spirit of the great Scotsman lives on in the hearts and minds of his compatriots today.

Interesting look beyond the legend

This is the ninth book I’ve read/listened to by In60 Learning and I would gladly listen to another.
This book is interesting and gives insight into the likely more realistic life and actions of William Wallace. Typically, the idolized man portrayed in movies, as in this case, differs greatly from the true man. That’s what happens when we base our interpretation on accounts written 200 years after the life of the idolized person.

This is the second book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Alexander Doddy ) and I would gladly listen to another. His accents are great. He read this very well. This is not a dry history listen.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Aiming to pick a fight.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable history of William Wallace or as much as can be separated from Myth. The narrator seemed to be as engaged by the material as I was and through it was short it was delightful. Anyone looking for more information after a good viewing of Braveheart will find what they are looking for here. I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Great "Quickie" History Lesson

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of William Wallace: The Spirit of a Scottish Martyr, by in60Learning and narrated by Alexander Doddy. This was a great history lesson for me and it was short enough to hold my interest but long enough to teach me something. I really like the in60Learning idea for learning things of interest that I don’t necessarily need the “in depth” knowledge of to satisfy my curiosity. I highly recommend these books.

Braveheart

Since I really don't know anything about William Wallace AKA Braveheart or Scottish history, I decided to see what I could learn from this quick listen.

This is good brief overview of the story of William Wallace, who has gone down in history as a martyr for the Scottish cause. Since most of what I knew about him came from Hollywood, I found this true history to be very different and a whole lot less romantic!

These 60 minute learning listens are great for those of us who only want a brief introduction to a subject. If the reader is interested in more in-depth information, this is a great place to start to see if the subject is one that they are truly interested in for the long haul.

The narrator does a good job and kept my interest throughout this quick book. I was given the chance to listen to this book through Audiobook Boom! and chose to review it.

William Wallace Rocks!

My favorite movie of all time is Braveheart. The story is amazing, and Mel Gibson is... just brilliant.
With that said, I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook about the great William Wallace.
It definitely gives me a different perspective, and the history of Mr. Wallace is quite the story.

Written very well, great narration, I am definitely happy with this one :)

The Man Behind The Myth

This was an interesting and compelling quick rundown of the life of William Wallace. Aside from little bit of editorializing, I thought in60Learning did a good job dispelling some of the myths surrounding Wallace and presented a decent historical view of the Man. I would have liked some more background on the Scottish rebellion, but given the one hour format there is only so much that can be included.

Alexander Doddy has a good voice and delivered an energetic performance, but his tone and inflections didn't always go with the material.

I received a copy if this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
