Caius d'Avignon, the knight known as The Britannia Viper, finds himself on the opposite side of William Marshal...and the Executioner Knights are caught in the middle...
Welcome to another Executioner Knights' tale!
When Caius d’Avignon is sent north at the request of a cousin of William Marshal to help in a dispute between neighbors, Caius couldn’t have imagined how his life would change.
Caius is one of the Marshal’s premier knights, a man who served in The Levant with many of the Marshal’s agents, but he had one distinct difference - he’d been branded The Britannia Viper by the Saracen commanders for his hard strike. There is no one fiercer in battle. Therefore, William Marshal has great confidence that Caius will solve the situation - if not by diplomacy, then by the sword.
But Caius is caught off-guard by the situation when he arrives. The Marshal’s cousin is an unscrupulous and cruel man who has all but decimated his neighbors and demands they be destroyed. When Caius goes to speak to the neighbors to demand their unconditional surrender, the first thing he sees is a woman of astounding beauty.
Emelisse de Thorington is that woman.

Truly, this is a page turner! Something new, exciting and unexpected every time you drop your guard or turn a page! Unexpected, surprising romance, war between neighbors, greed and death everywhere! But there are jokes, teasing and laughter where you least expect it. I shed tears, laughed out loud and was scared to anticipate what might happen next! Definitely a keeper to revisit often!

Aside from Lord of the Shadows, which he did okay, less than Sean deserved but okay (except during the critical scene which he executed hauntingly and beautifully), I’ve done nothing to deserve his creepy, hissing voices and weird inflections.
I feel Mills doesn’t understand powerful men the way he voices them. He’s dramatizes too much. These heroes need even voices with less questioning inflection. More natural, confident delivery of the dialog LeVeque has expertly written for them.
Having said that - I love Cai. I love the intelligence, professionalism, strength, yet kindness and charisma LeVeque built into him - in this book and others he makes appearances in. She excels at portraying these traits in her characters rather than outright stating such. I ❤️ strong men! I just really love strong men. I wish they were better narrated because I don’t have time to read. Plus, I want them read to me in strong male voices with beautiful accents like other LeVeque narrators.
I will note, I love her use of male narrators. The poor guys as they narrate the sex scenes. Impressive! Gotta be tough keeping their voices steady.
Brad Mills is awful, LeVeque is great! Love strong men!
