About this listen

INCLUDES AN INTRODUCTION WRITTEN AND READ BY MARTIN SCORSESE!

Nicholas Pileggi's vivid, unvarnished, journalistic chronicle of the life of Henry Hill - the working-class Brooklyn kid who knew from age twelve that "to be a wiseguy was to own the world," who grew up to live the highs and lows of the mafia gangster's life - has been hailed as "the best book ever written on organized crime" (Cosmopolitan).

This is the true crime best seller that was the basis for Martin Scorsese's film masterpiece GoodFellas, which brought to life the violence, the excess, the families, the wives and girlfriends, the drugs, the payoffs, the paybacks, the jail time, and the Feds...with Henry Hill's crackling narration drawn straight out of Wiseguy and overseeing all the unforgettable action.

"Nonstop...absolutely engrossing." (The New York Times Book Review)

Listen to it and experience the secret life inside the mob - from one who's lived it.

The Wisest of Guys

This is probably one of a very small handful of choice books that are unquestionably, and irrevocably neither better or worse than their film adaptations. it's a very rare and unique situation where the right people meet, at the right place, at the right time and actually work together so intently that the writing material is perfectly complimented by the filming and vise versa.

Truly riveting and impossible to put down.

better than movie

I've always loved "Goodfellas" but never read the book until now- I wish I would've done it earlier because I LOVED it. This gIves much more detailed explanation than the movie did as well as things not portrayed in the film.

a mob classic

finally read the book that created the movie. often said to be one of if not the best mob movie ever made. after seeing the movie so many times it was interesting to listen and hear the differances between how it really happened as opposed to what we saw on screen. i could see it in my head as it was read. a lot of fun. a book i had always been curious about and was glad to see it ofered here. the only bad thing about it ? to much about henry and karen, his wife. but it was a big part of the story. and to make it worse, hillary huber, i coudn't stand her voice. i'm sure they could have found someone less annoying. that's why i gave it 4 stars instead of 5. just to much of her voice. but a must read if you liked the movie.
