About this listen

An Astra Militarum Audiobook

Once a Cadian captain, Glavia Aerand's psychic talents see her pressed into service in a new role, to fight and die as a sanctioned psyker.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

This story offers a rare glimpse into the mysterious process of becoming a sanctioned psyker in the service of the Golden Throne, and you'll learn what that means for those who are found strong enough to serve.

THE STORY

Suffer not the witch to live, unless by their service they might earn redemption. This is the creed of the Scholastica Psykana, a brutal foundry in which those with psychic power might be taught to serve. On the eve of her sanctioning as a primaris psyker within these very halls, Glavia Aerand, former captain of the Cadian 900th Regiment, receives a startling premonition – one concerning her old unit, and a dangerous psychic artefact hidden on the planet where they are deployed.

After a reunion she never expected – or wanted – Aerand finds herself mired in a vicious campaign on the psychically active world of Visage, where the shallow seas and endless fogs are rumoured to swallow the souls of the dead. Haunted by growing suspicions of her new commander and the manifestations of the sinister relic, Aerand must trust in her new-found abilities to keep her former comrades alive, and confront an ancient threat that could consume Visage entirely.

Excellent story, not a line wasted

I can’t believe this doesn’t have any reviews. Guess I’ll start

It does a great job of informing people like me about what a Primaris Syker goes through to become one in the most efficient and effective way possible (everything from the black ships, which I was not aware of til now, to becoming an Adept). No time is wasted getting to the heart of the story, which is a mystery set on the miserable swamp planet of Visage.

If you really enjoyed stuff like Fall of Cadia like I did, or if you’re really sick of space marine drama as I am now that the Horus Heresy is concluded, this is an excellent choice to bring you back to a grounded story with compelling characters and a well-crafted plot.

Really pulls you in with the plight of a psyker operating in an Imperium that only barely tolerates their existence despite the fact that it made them and heavily relies on them in the struggles against chaos and warp entities in general. Absolutely worth a credit.

So bored during the second half that I only finished it out of obligation of paying for it

Author, you could do less abstract writing whenever a psychic phenomenon happens. Narrator, please use noise reduction when you're done recording.

It’s boring, not a lot happens.

Pretty boring book sadly. Not a whole lot happens for most of the plot and when it does, there is some mildly interesting intrigue as you try and figure out the mystery. The payoff wasn’t very enjoyable though. The performer seemed pretty bored for most of it to, maybe she was trying her best? You can skip this one.
