Publisher's summary

The unforgettable history of World War II presented in a chronological timeline format. This is THE definitive guide to WW2 in 24 chapters - each chapter covers a three-month period throughout the war years of 1939-1945.

You will learn:

  • How WW2 came about despite the First World War being called “The War to End All Wars” 20 years previously
  • The leaders of the Axis Powers - Adolf Hitler of Germany, Benito Mussolini of Italy, Emperor Hirohito of Japan
  • The leaders of the Allied Powers - From Neville Chamberlain to Winston Churchill of the United Kingdom on to Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman of the United States and Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union
  • The Battles of WW2 - From Blitzkrieg to Berlin; from Dunkirk to Pearl Harbor; from D-Day to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
  • Operations in order of action with statistics
  • The War Machines of WW2 - From the mighty planes like the Spitfire and monstrous B-29 Superfortress “Enola Gay” to Panzer tanks, U-Boats, and more

To really understand the concept of war on a global scale, the World War 2 years of 1939 to 1945 provide perhaps the first complete overview of man’s inhumanity to man, alongside the bravery and heroism that show the very worst and the very best facets of human nature.

The easiest listening of WW2 history ever for me!

A LOT of information to digest and the narrator helped a great deal. I liked the short reminder reviews as I went along. Not too many, not too few. I highly recommend The History Journals version of WW2 and Liam Dale is a really good story teller. 5 stars for all ratings. I learnt a lot. Some pronunciations not perfect but an English voice over. Not easy to cover all languages. Thank you.

Do not read this book

The basic problem with this book is that the author seems to have a “fan boy” view of WW2. The Allies are underdogs who only make honest mistakes and will win out in the end because there side is noble and just, seems to be the authors defining thesis of the book. He use this thesis to justify so many things, that should be explained not justified. There are far better histories that give a more competent understanding of the realities of WW2, the good and bad of the Allies, along with the horror of the Axis.
