Publisher's summary

“I don’t have time to grieve. I have to hold it together, because we can’t afford for me to fall apart.”

Jace Payne never dreamed he’d be a father at twenty-four - or an orphan, either. After his parents pass away in a plane crash, he’s determined to do right by his two brothers - regardless of what anyone else has to say. The complication? His parents didn’t want Jace to raise his siblings - they wanted his dad’s best friend to adopt them, instead.

"He’s beautiful. I only want to help him. It’s my sacred duty, and I take that responsibility as seriously as my Hippocratic Oath."

Rowan Baron spent most of his life in love with his best friend. For the most part, it didn’t cause any issues - but a falling out a couple years ago means that the news of Aaron’s death and Rowan’s new responsibilities catches him completely by surprise. He’s conflicted - he believes in Jace, but he’s also got a responsibility to see Aaron’s wishes through. If that wasn’t complex enough, he’s quickly shouldering another problem...his attraction to Jace has him in way over his head.

Welcome to Worthington, Texas, where the heat doesn't just rise in the summer - you'll feel it all year long in these stories of older men and their younger lovers. Every book in the Worth It series can be listened to on its own, but with so many familiar characters to love, why stop with just one? This audiobook features the pain of working through complicated grief, the rush of allowing a new love to bloom, and the hope that comes when you form a new family to protect and treasure.

Conflict and Consequences

I loved this story that deals beautifully with the conflicts that come when duty wars with attraction, as Jace and Rowan try to pursue their own love and needs for each other with trying to support the younger children.. I especially felt so sorry for a family doing it's best to stay together under the heavy hand of social services. I thought the book dealt very well with the reality of grief and the way younger children can act out as a way to express what they may not be able to communicate verbally. Very well done!

The narration was very good, and expressed the feelings and emotions wonderfully.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook through the author, and this is my honest, voluntary review.

A little slow

It dragged a little here and there but the story is sadly sweet. Muckajev Does a good job with the narration which makes it worth the listen.

Excellent Story

I loved this story because it dealt with gay people dealing with child services in Texas! Any author that can write a story like this with a happy ending is the kind of author I want to continue reading.

A family torn apart with the parent's accidental death. Then comes the father's best friend to help the 3 boys. The oldest being 23 yrs old and the other two boys in middle school...

This is a May December romance with a taste of the prejudice gay people still face.

What makes a family real?

Jace is trying to take care of his younger brothers after the sudden deaths of their parents. But by terms of their will, his father wanted his best friend Rowan (and Jace's "almost uncle" and godfather) to adopt the younger boys instead of Jace. It's a set-up for a classic conflict, but this story doesn't develop in the way you'd expect. Because both Jace and Rowan know they have to work together to ensure the boys aren't turned over to foster care--and to keep their accidental family together. And Jace is developing feelings for Rowan. This is a powerful story, well told by Nikola Muckajev.

Lovely story of loss & gain

This is the fourth book in the Worth It series with developed characters. This is an emotional MM age gap romance. Tragedy brings Jace and his Dad’s friend Rowan together after years of not seeing each other. Jace has a crush on Rowan since he was young. Now that Rowan is back, he cannot help but realize that Jace is no longer a kid but a grown man. Their journey to love and happiness has lots of drama, secrets that are divulged, that keep you completely in engaged in the story. Another wonderful story.

Wow

Jace never thought that he would have to grow up so fast when his parents died left him to jump i and take care of his two brothers. What he didn't see coming was his godfather being so much more.
Rowan was out of the country when his long time friends died and now came home to help take care of his godsons, what he didn't expect was for his best friend to ask for him to adopt the two boys but also took it upon himself to also take care of Jace.
Both didn't know it was going to happen but they fell in love and now going to raise these boys together.
Do recommend reading from the beginning of the series but what a sad but lovely story of both coming together no matter what the age difference was.
