About this listen

An accidental dog swap unleashes an unexpected love match in this new romantic comedy from New York Times best-selling author Julia London.

Carly Kennedy's life is in a spiral. She is drowning in work, her divorced parents are going through their midlife crises, and somehow Carly's sister convinces her to foster Baxter - a basset hound rescue with a bad case of the blues. When Carly comes home late from work one day to discover that the dog walker has accidentally switched out Baxter for another perkier, friendlier basset hound, she has reached the end of her leash.

When Max Sheffington finds a depressed male basset hound in place of his cheerful Hazel, he is bewildered. But when cute, fiery Carly arrives on his doorstep, he is intrigued. He was expecting the dog walker, not a pretty woman with firm ideas about dog discipline. And Carly was not expecting a handsome, bespectacled man to be feeding her dog mac and cheese. Baxter is besotted with Hazel, and Carly realizes she may have found the key to her puppy's happiness. For his sake, she starts to spend more time with Hazel and Max, until she begins to understand the appeal of falling for your polar opposite.

FANTASTIC!!!

I read this book the day I had to put one of my two 11 year old basset hounds to sleep. It was a terrible day for our family but this book helped me remember the many wonderful hours of joy our Hildegard gave us. Her brother , Humphrey, misses her along with us but memories will always be valued by all of us. This book has a Great storyline & narrative.

Lovely Romcom

The narration on this book was spot on. The characters there engaging and it was an easy listen. I have read this book before and listening to the narration was like discovering this book all over again.
What happens when two basset hounds end up with the wrong owners after a dog walk gone bad? A hilarious tale of opposite attracts, and I’m not just talking about the dogs.
Carly, the FMC, is a breath of fresh air, she is in her late twenties and no matter how much she hustles life doesn't seem to want to give her a break. I think most readers will find Carly's struggles relatable, we have had that time in our life where we just need a something to go right. Then there is Max, the MMC, he is one of my favorite book boyfriends, his awkwardness walks the fine line between adorable and cringe-worthy and he tries so hard to be there for the ones he cares about.
In true romcom fashion, Carly and Max are thrown together when their dogs are mixed up and from there they have to deal with a number of unexpected and bizarre circumstances. Outside of the plot, something that I love about this book is the character development. Every book that I have read by Julia London has just amazing character arcs. Her characters draw you in and by the end of the book you are so invested in the outcomes and feel like you truly know them. Julia London is a true master of her craft.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a contemporary romcom that features two very cute basset hounds, Baxter and Hazel.

I loved the authors descriptions of dogs and people.

I loved how the story of the two dogs falling in love and their owners then falling in love first with their dogs then with each other. The authors humor made me laugh countless times as she described people living a life similar to my life and others who have pets. And also how we work to keep our jobs and help others. Loved the description of the client who needed his user name and password written on a sticky note and kept on his computer. Sounds like something I have struggled with.

Outstanding performance!

Cute wholesome love story. Predictable outcome, but unique fun and quirky way to get there.

On the fence

Cute dogs. Had potential, but I found the main female characters(s) not terribly likable. Loved the concept though.
