Publisher's summary

"And so it comes to this. A showdown. An ending. But if we fail—if I end—then reality might follow along behind me.

We’ve been through so much. Torture. Murder. Trap after trap mainly sprung by me blundering headfirst into them and one of my friends saving my stupid behind.

But there’s no room for mistakes now.

We’ve got an inkling of what the scumbag we’re up against is after. Enough to know what his next target is. Enough to know it’s probably his last one. Enough to know it’s everything he needs to complete his nefarious plans.

If we don’t get there first, he wins. Simple. And I’m not sure...but my gut says if that happens, every living thing in the universe loses.

No pressure, right?

imPerfect Gods is the sixth book in The imPerfect Cathar series, and completes the first story arc. It is a darkly funny supernatural suspense mystery, containing dark humor and graphic violence.

Excellent Writing, empathic description

There isn't much I can say about this that I haven't already written in my review of the first trilogy.

The writing here is excellent. His world building relies on his near encyclopedic knowledge of history. There are real events in these stories I knew nothing about, legends I'd never heard of. and it's presented in a VERY interesting way.

the prose of the story focuses not only on description but getting the reader to FEEL what the characters do. It's pretty successful at this. The story is well thought out and there are some likable characters, though maybe a little cheesy.

The week point of this series is that the author is also the reader. I've seen some other reviews comment on this, I don't think he's awful, but there are some things about his reading style I don't like. on the plus side from time to time one of his character voices sounds like excited David Tennent. (Think of the excited touch of gravel tone when he shouts alonzi)

Great End to the First Arc

Much like the first five books, the pace and story are brilliant! Chris narrating his own writing is top notch as he understands the thoughts and emotions of each character intimately. Could not ask for a better conclusion to the first arc.

Dynamic Characters

Facing off against the truest, most evil being brings everything into perspective. He has spent many lifetimes trying to achieve perfection status once again. When it is within his grasp, he finds he must make life-changing decisions rich with humor and darkness.

As both the author and narrator, C.N. Rowan presents a lively and dynamic narrative skillfully blending action, darkness, and humor. The storyline is well-developed, flowing smoothly and steadily. The relatability of each of the characters is easy to follow through humor and fostering a genuine and strong connection. The narrative is from a first-person perspective which skillfully enhances the witty, dark, and sarcastic humor woven throughout. The performance was very intense from beginning to end.

Although I have not had the pleasure of hearing the previous five books, I can honestly say this book makes me want to start the series to see the hilarious, yet darkish exploits I have missed.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.
