Publisher's summary

Thea Mendel is living in her car because there's a ghost in her house. At a Halloween party, she meets someone who believes her, a boy with green eyes and ghosts of his own named Thomas.

Someone wants to do worse to Thea than kill her, and in order to find out who they are and what they want, the two of them will have to deal with a clan of unusually helpful vampires, unexpected Shoggoths, and all the weird that Rhode Island can throw at them. And that's a lot of weird.

Just wasn’t for me.

I thought this would be right up my alley but it just fell flat. I listened about halfway through and couldn’t get excited about finishing it. I wasn’t invested in the characters enough to wonder about what happens to them. I thought everything came too easy and there wasn’t much depth. I think it’s one of those books you have to try for yourself and see if it’s for you.

I didn’t like the language or the graphic sex

I didn’t like the foul language, especially using the name of Christ and God and I didn’t like the graphic sex descriptions. Sure liked it otherwise.

I LOVED IT!

I absolutely loved it! The narration was great and kept me entertained. The author did a great job with the character builds and plot. This was my first book by this author but definitely not my last. I look forward to reading more books from this author. Intense!

This was an exciting, scary, sad, sometimes amusing, and often over the top story that I completely loved. Each of the characters was well written and came across as believable, despite the unreal and insane events thrust upon them. I loved the magic and the "Scooby gang" feeling between the characters. Thea and Thomas were powerful and in love, and their story was engrossing. The magic they created together was epic. I was just as fond of several of the other characters as well, especially Joe and Bry. My heart hurt for the pain the connected families had gone through for years, and that was made worse by the knowledge of who was doing the hurting.
This fantastic book was read by a talented narrator. He expressed the feelings of the different characters very well, and I felt even more pulled into the story by his performance.
I recommend this audiobook to those who love magic and stories of good versus evil. It's well worth the nearly seventeen hours of listening time.

Good Listen

Well written story with a lot going on. The story moves a really good pace with new and interesting creatures popping in and out. Not what I expected from the summary, was much better.

Impossinle much???!!!

The story wasnt utterly boring. It held my interest mildly. But although I love fairy tales still and still love magic but plausible magic if theres such a thing. Not a lot of ridiculous larger than life impossibilities. The compilation and trail of the story I could follow but a lot of the content was too unreal and bordering on the ridiculous to make it a really good story. The narrator wasnt really good either which also tends to tske awsy from the authenticity of the story. If you have absolutely nothing else to do & had already bought this then listen. Otherwise....this book ismore suited to people ages 13 to maybe 18.

nameless

I feel like I am going to struggle to review this book correctly. I was nearly straight down the middle of the road here. Not because I felt the whole thing was meh, but because I really liked about half of it.
The good:
The writing was well done. I liked the descriptions and the conversations (for the most part), the mixed mythos, the various struggles, etc. The action was good and I liked how the story developed within and because of the various skirmishes. The narration was really good as well. I think it saved the book for me in various places.
The bad:
I get that relationships need to develop and as in real life, people hook up. the amount of sex, "sexual tension", sexy descriptions of the character's physique, etc. was tiresome. I am not the kind of guy who likes reading this stuff so it drove me nuts. Other people will not be bothered by it. I am a HUGE fan of a certain writer of the early 1900s, but the ending of the book was strange and seemed out of place with the dark vibe of the rest of the book.

All of this said when I liked the book I really liked the book. I am still on the fence about whether I will continue the series or not. The book was weird, frustrating, endearing, silly...

Speechless!!

I wasn't completely sure what I was walking into with this listen but it left me speechless! First, my hats off to the author. I will get to the particulars of the special but first, the dialogue in this listen was clever, and fun, and snarky, and well, romantic!! I know what you are thinking - how is that possible. It's not but this book made it happen!!! If it weren't for the fact I was so engrossed in the story, I would have written down some of the clever lines. You're just gonna have to trust me.

Now, the story. There are so many genres mixed into this book that it's hard to classify. It has magic, and mythology, and zombie's, and vampires, and the Holocaust, and sex, and romance, and long-simmering love's, and infidelity, and murder, and, well, you see my point. It all worked to create one of the most unique and special listens I've ever had the pleasure.

As for the narration, how have I missed Pete Milan!!!! Never mind that he delivered a performance that felt like several different people were narrating, but his vocals for the main character Logan, made my toes tingle. Logan was a big man with a big voice and my goodness was that ever evident. I am looking right now to find more books by Milan. (That voice!!!!!)

This book was one of the rare occasions when I wanted, needed, would glorify in a book two. There won't be one. What a cruel world.

Voice was ridiculous.

Really liked the story but the narrators voice was not a fit. It was super deep and with a book with a lot of female characters was just goofy. All the intimate passages were awkward and embarrassing.
