גדול זכותם של ה"טנקיסטים" ואשרי חלקם. בנוגע לטענת המלעיגים שעדיף שיתעסקו בלימוד התורה ועבודת התפלה וכיו"ב, ומה להם להתעסק לחפש בעלי-תשובה, להניח תפילין עם יהודי וכו' – הרי מדובר אודות הצלת הנפש והנשמה של הזולת! אלא שבנוגע לתלמיד-ישיבה עליו לשאול אצל הנהלת הישיבה האם לנצל הזמנים העומדים לרשותו (מחוץ לסדרי הישיבה) לשלימות עצמו או להצלת נפשות של הזולת, ואם ניתנת לו ההוראה לנצל זמנים אלו להיות "טנקיסט" – לעשות כן בשמחה ולדעת שבזה דוקא היא שלימותו; יישר כח גדול ולבבי ביותר לכל אלו שהתעסקו במבצע פורים ולכל אלו שמתעסקים בכל המבצעים ובפרט מבצע נש"ק (שיש בזה גם "סגולה" לאריכות ימים), והרי בלידת בת ישראל מברכים שתהי' "כשרה רבקה רחל ולאה" ונר של שרה הי' דולק מערב שבת לערב שבת, וכמו"כ הנר שמדליקה כל בת ישראל בערב שבת – דולקת ברוחניות ומאירה את כל הבית עד לערב שבת הבאה שמדליקה נר חדש!

Great is the merit of the tankistim and fortunate is their lot. While some criticize and argue that it would be better for them to engage in Torah and tefillah etc., and question why they involve themselves in seeking out baalei teshuvah and putting tefillin on another Jew, etc. – the answer is that we are dealing with saving the nefesh and neshamah of another Jew! But in the case of yeshiva students, they must consult the yeshiva administration on whether to devote their free time (outside the yeshiva schedule) for personal growth, or for this task of saving the lives of others. If one is instructed to use his time to be a tankist, he should do so with joy, and understand that this is precisely where he will find his fulfillment. I express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who participated in Mivtza Purim and all those involved in all the Mivtzoim, especially the Shabbos Candles Campaign (which also carries a segulah for long life). When a Jewish girl is born, we bless her to be “like Sarah, Rivkah, Rachel, and Leah”; we know that Sarah’s candle would burn from one Erev Shabbos to the next, and the same applies to the Shabbos candle lit by every Jewish girl: it burns spiritually and illuminates the entire home until the next Erev Shabbos, when a new candle is lit.
