A single aunt travels to visit and hopefully take in her orphaned niece but finds her gone and the woman who has supposedly been taking care of her is acting very strangely in a house which appears very haunted.

An unknown narrator relates the story of a woman who lived alone in their town who dressed richly and acted differently, often attracting the attention of single men. False suspicions and dislike grew in her wake, and sensing this, the woman changed her ways, bought a house on a nice street and began attending church- but the community didn't change their attitudes or try to get to know her. Its a good morality tale, in that you shouldn't judge anyone by what others think and say, and think and find out for yourself. You may be surprised.

A fun story by Eliza Leslie describing a mom and her two grown kids- allvery educated and ready to take their place in society as was the goal in "the upper classes" of the late 19th century, They are traveling through New York and a friend has referred two familes to them to stop by and meet on their way home. They respond to both families and receive word back that yes, both families were looking forward to meting them and they are invited to visit the same evening. The accept the first invitation, which is not that descriptive, only to discover soon after accepting the first that the second invitation offers a much fancier evening with much more to do, entertainment,and the like. But as the agreed to the first, thats where they go. And what an evening!

A 40 year old man returns to his hometown after a 15 year absence hoping to find some romance in his life and finds that not all that much has changed. His hopes aren't that high, considering he never made the fortune he had left to find, but his luck might be about to change.

A young man returning home from college in new England finds his father on the verge of losing his farm and decides to quit college to help the family through.

The father of a college age boy receives a letter from his son announcing his engagenet to an older lady (32) and dad assumes the worst. He leaves NY for California with plans of convincing his son to call it off. He meets Miss Mix as she is working in her back yard chicken coup, believing he (Mr Fox, Anthony's dad) to be the repairman she had called. Once they get things straightened out, he begins to realoly admire her for taking his son under her wing.

Its a great story. I'm a little hoarse, my apologies.
