104. The Silent Barrel: The Chilling Mystery of Reyna Marroquín

  • Summary

  • In 1999, a Long Island homeowner discovered a decades-old barrel in his basement containing the body of a pregnant woman, later identified as Reyna Marroquín, who had vanished in 1969. Investigation revealed Reyna, an immigrant from El Salvador, had been romantically involved with her married employer, Howard Elkins, and was carrying his child. Confronted by police, Elkins denied involvement but refused a DNA test and later died by suicide. Posthumous DNA analysis confirmed his paternity, and Reyna’s family in El Salvador finally learned her fate after 30 years. Though justice was never formally served, the tragedy brought a heartbreaking resolution to a long-unsolved mystery.
