22. The One Where You Take Care Of Everyone But Yourself

  • Summary

  • If you’re really good at giving, but struggle to take time for yourself, you’re at risk for Caregiver or Compassion Fatigue. Whether you’re a parent, caring for a friend or family member, or part of a helping profession like teaching or healthcare, learning to balance giving and taking is essential for preventing burnout and managing your energy.

This episode, I’m joined by Amanda Rocheleau, a Registered Social Worker and Compassion Fatigue Specialist. She shares the moment, while reading a book to her three young kids, that she realized she was burned out from overgiving. Amanda shares practical strategies to help you keep giving, while also taking care of your own needs.

    Key takeaways:

    • If you want to be a helper, you have to learn how to take
    • The beliefs and mindset that make women more prone to overgiving and putting their own needs on the backburner
    • How to create micro-moments of rest in your day when your schedule is packed and there’s no relief in sight
