In 1977, he was ordained a priest, and from 1990 to 2014, he was the Pastor of St. Louise de Marillac. From 1999 to 2012, he was also the Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan Catholic. Since 2014 he’s been the Pastor of St. Thomas More Parish whose mission statement is to know Jesus, to love Jesus, and to serve Jesus.

From 1988 to 2003, he was the president of the Rinke Automotive Group, and from 2009 to 2014, he was the owner of Cassell & Associates which operates two traumatic brain injury centers. In 2022 he was unsuccessful in his run for Michigan Governor.
