• Convictions of a Christian Sampson Ep4
    May 1 2023

Welcome to the latest episode of our podcast, where we delve into the fascinating story of Sampson, his convictions, and his struggles against God. Our hosts Jon Nate and Matt are here to take you on a journey through this biblical tale, exploring its various themes and shedding light on its enduring relevance.

Sampson, one of the most enigmatic figures in the Old Testament, was a judge of Israel who possessed immense physical strength, thanks to his long hair, which he had vowed never to cut. However, Sampson's strength was not matched by his moral character, and he often gave in to temptation and committed acts of violence and debauchery, much to the dismay of God and his followers.

Throughout the story of Sampson, we see him repeatedly disobeying God's commandments and indulging in sinful behavior, such as consorting with prostitutes and seeking revenge against his enemies. Despite being blessed with immense power, Sampson was unable to overcome his weaknesses and remained a flawed, deeply human character.

Our hosts, Jon Nate and Matt, go deep into the psychological complexities of Sampson's character, exploring the various factors that drove him to commit the acts he did. They discuss the various theological themes present in the story, such as the struggle between free will and divine providence, and the nature of repentance and forgiveness.

This podcast is a must-listen for anyone interested in the story of Sampson and its enduring relevance in today's world. With its insightful analysis and engaging discussions, it offers a unique perspective on this fascinating biblical figure and his struggles against God. So tune in, and let Jon Nate and Matt take you on a journey through the story of Sampson!

  • Samson's Superhuman Strength and Why God's Gifts are Better than Lamborghinis
    Apr 17 2023

In this episode, Jon discusses his desire to own a Lamborghini. He even jokes about using our podcast earnings to buy one...he will be saving for a very long time! While we wait, we'll keep producing episodes of Back Pew Bible Study, knowing that God's gifts are far more valuable than any flashy sports car and trusting that God will equip us with the skills we need to serve Him!
    Readings from: Judges 16:4-30
Here are five lessons we can learn from Samson's story:

    1. Use your gifts for God, even if it means driving a Lamborghini.
    2. Be a good steward of your gifts, or else you might crash and burn.
    3. God will cultivate your gifts, but you've got to put in the work.
    4. Give God the glory for your gifts, unlike Samson.
    5. When we use our gifts for God, He promises to bless us abundantly, just like Jesus said in Luke 6:38.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
