Sent by King Kansa, Demon Trinavarta wished to end Lord Krishna’s life. Trinavarta was a very strong demon and could even take the form of storms whenever he wished. When Lord Krishna realized that Trinavarta had arrived in Gokul, he was in the lap of Yashoda. With his divine powers, he made himself so heavy that Yashoda got tired of holding him. Little Krishna turned one year old and there were great celebrations in Gokul. Nand Baba and Yashoda Maiyya were attending to all the guests. As Krishna started feeling sleepy, Yashoda Maiyya kept his cot underneath a bullock cart.

After a while, when Krishna woke up, he wanted to attract the attention of his parents and others. When no one responded to his cries for a while, he kicked the bullock cart with one of his legs and the cart flew up in the air and fell sideways. This way, Krishna was able to gain the attention of everyone towards him.

Lord Krishna started living his life under the love and care of Nand Ji and Yashoda Maiyya in Gokul. On the other hand, Kansa was living a life under threat and he was unable to find the child who was destined to kill him. He became very restless and sent Pootna a ferocious female demon, which was famous for disguising herself as a pretty woman. She was asked to look and kill all the children in the kingdom who were one year old or less.

When Pootna reached Baal Krishna’s house, dressed as a beautiful woman, Yashoda maiyya did not doubt her and let her play with the little child. Pootna carried poison with her and tried to give it to the child in the milk.

Krishna being a God was well aware of her hidden motives from the moment he saw her and using his might, he killed the demoness Pootna.

The cruel demon king Kansa was the king of Mathura. Kansa married his dear sister Devki off to his close friend Vasudev. On the day of the wedding, a celestial voice warned Kansa that the 8th offspring of Devki and Vasudev will be the one who will kill Kansa. Kansa first tried to kill them right away but then seeing them plead, he agreed to spare their lives but jailed them both in his kingdom.

As time passed Devki gave birth to 6 sons, which were killed by Kansa. When Devki became pregnant for the seventh time, the unborn child was sent by Lord Vishnu to be raised in the womb of Vasudev’s first wife Rohini. When Devki gave birth to her eighth son, Lord Vishnu asked Vasudev to carry the child to Gokul to be raised by his friend Nand Ji. Vasudev did as instructed and from Gokul, he brought back Nand and his wife Yashoda’s newly born daughter.

Kansa came to know about the birth of the eighth child of Devki who was a daughter. When Kansa tried to kill her, the newborn girl, who was actually an incarnation of Devi Yogmaya, flew up in the air and told Kansa, that the child who will put an end to his life is already born and is in a safe place.
