    Peter Denies Jesus

    Matthew 26:69-75

69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

    • Human Weakness: Peter’s failure shows the fragility of human resolve under pressure
    • Repentance and Forgiveness: Despite his denial, Peter later seeks forgiveness and is restored by Jesus after the resurrection (John 21:15-19).
    • Fulfillment of Prophecy: Jesus’ prediction underscores His divine knowledge.

    Jesus Before Caiaphas

    Matthew 26:57-68

The Sanhedrin’s inability to find liars who would aid them in condemning Christ to death was a significant challenge. While they discovered several individuals capable of fabricating stories about Christ, none of them could fabricate lies that would benefit the enemies of Christ. Furthermore, other Gospel accounts mention that the lying witnesses were unable to agree on their fabricated narratives.

    Only falsehood could condemn Christ

    Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

    Matthew 26:30-35

God offers grace and the opportunity for a second chance. Peter’s story is a perfect example of this. Even after denying Jesus, Peter was forgiven and later became a key leader in spreading the Gospel. It shows that no matter how far we fall, God’s mercy is greater, and He welcomes us back when we repent with sincere hearts.

    The Passover with the Disciples

    Matthew 26:17-25

Here we have the introduction to the Lord Supper, one of the two ordinances found in the New Testament, alongside Baptism by immersion for every born-again, blood-washed child of God.

    • The fruit of the vine symbolizes the blood that He will shed, while the bread symbolizes His body.
    • The significance of this ordinance lies in its purpose to remind us of the Lord and His sacrifice in saving our souls. Thank you, Jesus.

    Judas betrays Jesus

    Matthew 26:14-16

The character of Judas was a man consumed by greed, deceit, and disloyalty. He lacked integrity, embodying all the qualities that Christ despised. Let us not become like Judas this new year, but instead strive to emulate Jesus’ teachings and virtues.
