  • Whispering Bill Anderson ft. Bill Anderson
    Sep 12 2024
This week Sara sits down with country music icon, Bill Anderson! Bill walks Sara through his journey to finding his love for music and how he ended up in Nashville pursuing his dream. The two of them reminisce on Bill presenting Sara her Opry induction and the songs that Bill has written that Sara loves. Bill also offers to take Sara out on his boat, and who knows, maybe the next big country hit will be written on Whispering Bill Anderson’s boat. You don’t wanna miss the laughs and memories shared in this episode! About Bill Anderson: Bill Anderson has been using that philosophy for over sixty years to capture the attention of millions of country music fans around the world, en route to becoming a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and one of the most popular, most enduring entertainers of our time. He’s known, in fact as “Whispering Bill,” a nickname hung on him years ago as a result of his breathy voice and his warm, soft approach to singing a country song. His credentials, however, shout his prominence: One of the most awarded songwriters in the history of country music, a million-selling recording artist many times over, television game show host, network soap opera star, author of four books, and a consummate onstage performer. His backup group, The Po’ Folks Band, has long been considered one of the finest instrumental and vocal groups in the business. Bill Anderson was born in Columbia, South Carolina, but spent most of his growing-up years around Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism, having worked his way through college as a disc jockey on nearby radio stations. It was while he was still in school that he began performing and writing songs. At the age of nineteen, he composed the country classic, “City Lights,” and began rapidly carving his place in musical history. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee, secured a recording contract with Decca Records, and began turning out hit after hit with songs like “Po’Folks,” “Mama Sang A Song,” “The Tips Of My Fingers,” “8X10,” and the unforgettable country and pop smash, “Still.” His compositions were recorded by such diverse musical talents as Ray Price, Porter Wagoner, James Brown, Debbie Reynolds, Ivory Joe Hunter, Kitty Wells, Faron Young, Lawrence Welk, Dean Martin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Aretha Franklin, Walter Brennan and many others. Bill has been voted Songwriter Of The Year six times, Male Vocalist Of The Year, half of the Duet Of The Year with both Jan Howard and Mary Lou Turner, has hosted and starred in the Country Music Television Series Of The Year, seen his band voted Band Of The Year, and in 1975 was voted membership in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Ten years later, the State of Georgia honored him by choosing him as only the 7th living performer inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. In 1993, he was made a member of the Georgia Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame. In 1994, South Carolina inducted him into their Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame. And in 2001, he received the ultimate honor, membership in Nashville’s prestigious Country Music Hall of Fame. Bill Anderson continues to paint a broad stroke across the Nashville music scene. He has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1961 and performs there regularly. He continues to write and to record, his latest release being vocal and instrumental versions of some of his best known songs, titled “Bill Anderson – The Hits Re-Imagined.” On the personal side, Bill lives on Old Hickory Lake outside Nashville where he spends as much time as possible with his three children and eight grandchildren. He is a boater and sports enthusiast who has been known to adjust his work schedule to fit around a ball game he just “has to see.” He is an avid reader, his bookshelves lined with mysteries, biographies, books on religion, sports, and humor. • Monistat Mouthwash ft. Briley King
    Sep 5 2024

Sara is joined this week by fashion icon and wife of music legend Marcus King, Briley King! Sara and Briley discuss Briley’s impeccable style and she gives a full fit check of the outfit she’s wearing. The two of them also talk in depth about the hate that they each receive online, the ever changing music industry, and the importance of family. They very quickly become bonded over their love for chicken and tennis, and Sara shares with Briley a jarring dental story that you do not want to miss!

    About Briley King:

Briley King is the daughter of a long-haul trucker, the wife to a touring musician, and the heart behind Little Bird Trucking. Born and raised in North Carolina, Briley was taught the importance of drive and dedication at a very young age. At seven years old, her parents told her if she wanted to take singing lessons, she would have to fund the money herself. That day, she cut the top off a milk jug and sang on the street until she raised enough money to do so. Her work ethic later earned her a degree in Communications from East Carolina University, where she began working in Corporate Litigation before moving into finance.

For her thirtieth birthday, Briley planned an evening out with friends to go to a Marcus King concert. She only knew a few songs – one, specifically, that she noted helped get her through a hard breakup. After the show, Marcus found a post she made on Instagram and immediately messaged her, inviting her to another one of his concerts. “I walked on his tour bus wearing a big, huge caftan and Mignonne Gavigan bird earrings,” she shares. “I said, ‘What’s up, y’all, I look like Big Bird,’ and Marcus looked at me and said, ‘No, you’re a little bird.’” After a night of singing and dancing, Marcus told Briley to quit her job and marry him, but it had always been instilled in her to have her own thing going - her own identity – even when she was to get married.

While living on the tour bus, and unsure of when she would be able to wash and style her hair next, trucker hats became a wardrobe staple for her. She started collecting them through eBay, vintage stores, gas stations, merch stands, friends, and beyond. One night, while Marcus was on stage in his signature feather cowboy hat, Briley had the idea to make her own trucker hats detailed with a feather.

Briley hand-makes every hat, usually around two hundred per day, in addition to boxing up packages, shipping each order, handling all customer inquiries, and running the social media account. She has gotten to collaborate with the iconic Houston Rodeo, celebrities, and - to make it all full circle - Mignonne Gavigan, the designer of the earrings she wore the night she met Marcus. With many accomplishments and orders to all fifty states, her absolute favorite part is watching others rock their Little Bird Trucking gear. She also acknowledges she couldn’t do it without her incredible USPS mail carrier, Samantha Knox, who has gone above and beyond to help her with each order.

While the idea behind starting a trucker hat company began as an ode to her dad, it has since flourished into reflecting many aspects of her own life. Birds have always signified a lot to Briley; in addition to always having a fascination for Cardinals, her grandfather loved birds. She shares, “he had a chair by the window and a bird I.D. book… all day, he would sit on his porch and identify the birds that would come to the bird feeder.” Ten days after Briley and Marcus met, her grandfather passed away. She adds that Marcus and her grandmother have an incredible relationship, and that she truly believes her grandfather sent Marcus to not only her, but her whole family.

  • Getting Older and Aging Gracefully ft. Dr. Chris Motley
    Aug 29 2024

This week Sara sits down with Chinese medicine doctor and friend, Dr. Chris Motley! Sara and Dr. Motley discuss how eastern and western medicine should work together more and how Dr. Motley isn’t against modern medicine. He also shares many different, simple ways you can live a cleaner life and clear up some longer lasting problems that may not be solved by modern medicine. This episode will absolutely leave you wanting to make an appointment with Dr. Motley!

    About Dr. Motley:

In high school I had three options and interests in mind: art, pilot, or healthcare. I chose healthcare. A decision that had to be influenced by God and my genetics. I graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Austin Peay State University in 1997. After undergrad, I attended Logan University in Chesterfield, Missouri and completed my Doctorate in Chiropractic with a specialization in Clinical Kinesiology in 2004. I chose to specialize in Clinical Kinesiology, because in my opinion, it covers a wide range of testing techniques. I started a practice in a small house in Franklin, TN. Over the last 16, I have seen the practice grow to full capacity. I am thankful to God that this path has fulfilled and taught me so many of life’s hidden lessons. Those lessons can be tough. Not only do you see these lessons in your patients, but also through personal experience. During my sixth year, full onset of Lyme Infection (which I believe I contracted as a teen) began in 2011. It lasted more than three years, and I almost had to stop practice completely. I experienced a wide range of the symptoms of Lyme, which made me question if I could keep practicing and even help anyone again. However, with the treatments from my colleagues and mentors, I came out of all symptoms and infections. I am forever grateful to them. I thank God that I now understand what people with chronic infections go through. Interesting enough, after my battle with Lyme, more and more people came into the office wanting help with chronic infections. Energy moves through us and creates attraction for others who need that same help. I am thankful that I have been able to assist and help those with chronic problems for all my years in practice.

Another scare happened in December 2017. I had a ruptured ulcer that sent me to ICU and surgery. My surgeon, Dr. Rosen said stress was a big factor, and that I would have died if a few more hours had passed. I created a scenario of constantly saying “yes” and never saying “no”. Always pushing myself had quite an impact on my health. I have recovered fully. However, this event created a positive shift in my mentality. This shift helps me in the treatment of patients. I am now more aware of the signs of disease and sickness that are based in the “fight, flight, or freeze” mechanism we put on ourselves in this day and age. Being still, staying present, and slowing down is a major source of comfort and focus in my life and health clinic. The lessons I learn from my own life and patients continuously teach me that self awareness is the first step to healing. Teaching patients to learn how to feel what they feel and not run from it is the initial phase of the journey. This gives power and strength back into a persons life, and opens the door for resolutions. I want to help teach individuals to learn more about themselves. When they do this, it brings validation and connection within their bodies, and this leads to healing.
