    Oct 13 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 292, “Avoid the ‘I Am the Only One’ Trap,“ Kim discusses the “I Am the Only One” trap the prophet Elijah repeatedly fell into and how each of us can recognize this temptation and avoid it in our own lives. Prayerfully determine which “I Am the Only One” trap you struggle with the most. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 19:9-10 with 10 as the focal verse: 22 Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only prophet of the Lord who is left, but Baal has 450 prophets. (1 Kings 18:22) 10 Elijah replied, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.” (1 Kings 19:10) 14 He replied again, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.” (1 Kings 19:14) WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: Which “I Am the Only One” trap is your greatest temptation? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. Oct 6 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 291, “The Lord Cares about the Entirety of a Person,“ Kim discusses the concern the Lord showed for his prophet Elijah’s physical, mental, and emotional needs. So often Christians have a tendency to be so focused on looking to meet a spiritual need in others and miss the opportunities to be the hands and feet of Christ. May this lesson spur each listener to look for opportunities to meet the physical, mental, emotional, as well as spiritual needs of others. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 19:5-8 with 5 as the focal verse: 5 Then he lay down and slept under the broom tree. But as he was sleeping, an angel touched him and told him, “Get up and eat!” 7 Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.” WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: Name one person you can reach out to and meet a physical, mental, or emotional need. Sep 15 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 288, “Even Devoted Followers of the Lord Can Have Off Days,“ Kim discusses the example of the devoted follower of the Lord named Obadiah and how he struggled with Elijah’s instruction to him. What do your spiritual off days look like? In this lesson, Kim addresses how to return to the basics in order to rebound from off days or seasons. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 18:1-16 with 3 and 9-12 as the focal verses: 3 So Ahab summoned Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace. (Obadiah was a devoted follower of the Lord. 9 “Oh, sir,” Obadiah protested, “what harm have I done to you that you are sending me to my death at the hands of Ahab? 10 For I swear by the Lord your God that the king has searched every nation and kingdom on earth from end to end to find you. And each time he was told, ‘Elijah isn’t here,’ King Ahab forced the king of that nation to swear to the truth of his claim. 11 And now you say, ‘Go and tell your master, “Elijah is here.”’ 12 But as soon as I leave you, the Spirit of the Lord will carry you away to who knows where. When Ahab comes and cannot find you, he will kill me. Yet I have been a true servant of the Lord all my life. WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: What do you do to rebound from off spiritual days? Sep 8 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 287, “Standing for the Lord in the Darkness,“ Kim discusses the importance of seeing the spiritual battles around us and not having tunnel vision to the earthly level. In today’s episode, the famous story of the showdown between the prophet Elijah and the 450 prophets of Baal is front and center. Yet, the real battleground was being waged in the heavenlies. Just imagine the war that was waging for the hearts of the members of the Northern tribes of Israel. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 18:1-40 with 36-37 as the focal verses: 36 At the usual time for offering the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet walked up to the altar and prayed, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command. 37 O Lord, answer me! Answer me so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God and that you have brought them back to yourself.” WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: Are you secure enough in the Lord that you could stand against the darkness? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:10-12)17 Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. Carmel spiritual warfare prayers? Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 17:17-24 with 20-22 as the focal verses: 20 Then Elijah cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me, causing her son to die?” 21 And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, please let this child’s life return to him.” 22 The Lord heard Elijah’s prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived! Aug 25 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 285, “The Lord Said..So Elijah Did,“ Kim discusses the miracles the Lord does through His obedient servants. In today’s lesson, we see a prime example of this principle in the life of the prophet Elijah. Are you listening attentively for the Lord’s voice? When you hear Him speak, do you obey? Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 17:8-16 with 8-10 as the focal verses: 8 Then the Lord said to Elijah, 9 “Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.” 10 So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates of the village, he saw a widow gathering sticks, and he asked her, “Would you please bring me a little water in a cup?” WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: When the Lord tells you to do something outside your comfort zone, what is your response? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 24 But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown. 25 “Certainly there were many needy widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the heavens were closed for three and a half years, and a severe famine devastated the land. 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them. He was sent instead to a foreigner—a widow of Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
