Earlier this year, Tom Valledolmo interviewed Bob Golon, our friend, fellow Baymen Men’s Club member, and a Sports Historian in our Community. In this Podcast interview, the roles are reversed and Bob interviews Tom, our friend, a Baymen Men’s Club Member, and also one of our very knowledgeable sports authorities in our community. Tom and Jay Knego frequently host a podcast segment we refer to as “Two Guys Talking Sports” where they have discussed their Major League Baseball and National Football League Pre-Season Predictions.

Tom had an over-40-year career as a sports journalist with several major newspapers in New York and on Staten Island, most notably the New York Post. He covered both major league and college events many of us either witnessed live, watched on TV, or read about in the newspapers. Little did we know that we were reading Tom’s reporting of these events.

This summer Phil spent some time talking with Cindy Varamo, the Grounds and Landscape Committee Chairperson in our community.

Cindy also has another passion. As a volunteer for the past few years, Cindy has been involved with the “Save the Turtles” campaign and set up her ‘outdoor office’ on Great Bay Blvd. Her mission is to protect the turtles, or terrapins as they are referred to here, during their migration period which includes protecting them from passings cars and bicycles, natural predators, and building caged, individual dwellings for each terrapin.

Listen to Cindy tell her story, and possibly encourage you to get involved in this noble cause.

Why did the turtle cross the road? Listen and find out.
