  • The Art of Resilience with Matt Hendrick
    Sep 23 2024

At 21, Matt Hendrick’s life took a sharp turn after a devastating car accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. But that’s not where his story ends—it’s where it begins. In this captivating episode, we explore how Matt transformed unimaginable challenges into powerful art, creating stunning oil portraits with a brush held between his teeth. From his early days as a photography student at Rochester Institute of Technology to his current mastery of mouth painting, Matt’s journey is a testament to resilience, innovation, and creative expression.

Tune in as we discuss Matt’s unique artistic process—painting iconic faces using only three shades of color and minimal brushstrokes—and how he finds serenity in each piece. We’ll also dive into the inspiration behind his memoir, Uncommon Vision, which chronicles his encounters with the paranormal and supernatural, and his journey through over 300 caregivers and countless life-altering moments.

This episode isn’t just about art; it’s about the power of the human spirit to adapt, overcome, and thrive in the face of adversity. Whether you’re an artist, an entrepreneur, or someone looking for inspiration, Matt’s story will leave you uplifted and ready to tackle your own challenges with a renewed sense of purpose.

Back in 2022 I was able to acquire one of Matt's pieces (a NFT) titled, "Becky." It was the second painting he did with his mouth. Right now it's locked away safely in my cold digital wallet but I did share a copy on Facebook here.

In any case, don’t miss this unforgettable conversation. 🎨✨

  • #11 Jim Thorpe: The Journey of One of the Most Accomplished Athletes in History
    Sep 21 2024

Welcome to Humanity Unfiltered, where we bring you the stories that matter. Today, we’re diving into the incredible life of Jim Thorpe, one of the most accomplished athletes in history. His journey is filled with triumphs, hardships, and an enduring legacy.

Born in 1888 in Oklahoma and a member of the Sac and Fox Nation, Thorpe’s athletic gifts were clear early on. At Carlisle Indian Industrial School, he shattered records in track and became a football star, leading his team to victories over powerhouses like Army and Harvard. His versatility on the field earned him a place on Walter Camp’s All-America teams in 1911 and 1912.

Thorpe’s crowning moment came in the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, where he dominated both the decathlon and pentathlon, earning two gold medals. Sweden’s King Gustav V even called him “the greatest athlete in the world.” But his victory was marred by controversy. In 1913, the International Olympic Committee stripped Thorpe of his medals after discovering he’d briefly played semi-pro baseball, violating amateur status rules.

Despite this setback, Thorpe excelled across multiple sports. He played pro baseball and became one of the first stars of American football, even serving as the first president of the NFL. In his later years, Thorpe faced personal struggles, battling alcoholism and financial instability. Yet in 1950, he was named the greatest athlete of the first half of the 20th century by the Associated Press. His Olympic medals were finally restored to his family in 1983, righting one of sports history’s great wrongs.

Thorpe’s final wish was to be buried on his ancestral Sac and Fox land, but due to political complications, he was interred in Pennsylvania. His family continues to fight for his remains to be returned to Oklahoma, seeking to fulfill his last request.

Jim Thorpe’s story is one of strength, resilience, and undeniable greatness. If this episode resonated with you, please subscribe, follow, like, share, and comment. Let’s keep his legacy alive. Thanks for listening.
