I'm So Not Over It

By: Gareth Gwynn & Esyllt Sears
  • Summary

  • I'm So Not Over It is a comedy history podcast about things you'll remember from the first time round.

Each week comedy writers Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears explore a different month in history – but with a brief stretching from the mid-70s to the present day. Basically, if you could see it, it would be in colour.

It’s politics and pop culture for the eighties, nineties, noughties and beyond, delivered in 20 minute hits because we know what your attention span is like.

So if you remember Westlife but struggle with the Westland affair and if your favourite Aitken was a Tory MP or the one who co-wrote I Should Be So Lucky, we’ve got you covered in this ridiculous historical guide to the information age (even if that information came from a poorly recalled browse of Encarta ‘95).

These weekly episodes are interspersed with interviews with the people who lived through this period to understand whether it has had any bearing on the lives they lead today.

The perfect listen, whether you’re Generation X, Gen X, Xennial, Millennial, Generation Z, Gen Z or whatever Pepsi wants to call you.

I'm So Not Over It is brought to you by the team behind the award nominated Xennial Dome Podcast - Previous guests on that show include Nish Kumar, Jess Philips MP, Trevor & Simon, Isy Suttie and many more and those episodes can be found on the same podcast feed.

  • Christmas Leftovers III (Part 2 - Elis James and Gemma Arrowsmith)
    Jan 7 2025

A second helping of Christmas Leftovers - this time made up from some bits and bobs we were sad to snip out of our interview series for time.

Enjoy BBC Radio 5 Live's Elis James (live in the London Welsh Centre) discussing his family's attitude to technology, his time in a band and having a decent stab at a round of Mario Kart on a screen which, we will admit, was too big.

We've also got the brilliant comedy writer and actor Gemma Arrowsmith giving us the low-down on the Voyager mission (which came up in our July 1979 episode) plus, for reasons I'm now struggling to remember, a discussion about Welsh TV star Arfon Haines Davies and how nice he is.

If you haven't caught them yet, do check-out the full episodes with Elis James and Gemma Arrowsmith.

Don't forget, Esyllt and Gareth's end-of-year special for BBC Radio Wales, I Can't Get Over 2024, is available on BBC Sounds (but will only be there till the end of the month, so do be quick!)

  • Christmas Leftovers III (Part 1)
    Dec 31 2024

Our end-of-year special for BBC Radio Wales, I Can't Get Over 2024, is available now on BBC Sounds.

However, if you've alright caught our look back at 2024 and want to know even more about the year we're leaving behind, then this is the episode for you! With a strict one-hour run-time on BBC Radio Wales (actually 55'47) there was loads that Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears wanted to cover but couldn't get round to - which is what appears in today's now traditional Christmas Leftovers episode. We cover the year's animal news, what we think of the Welsh FA's horn and we enter more traditional ISNOI territory with Colin Firth's wet shirt.

This is Christmas Leftovers Part 1 as next week we'll have some bits and bobs we didn't manage to squeeze into our most interview series, so do make sure you're subscribed for that as it'll be great.

  • December 1993 (The Queen's Christmas Letter and The Nobel Prize)
    Dec 24 2024

Our end-of-year special for BBC Radio Wales, I Can't Get Over 2024, is available now on BBC Sounds.

If you're a Xennial (or thereabouts), December 1993 was probably "peak Christmas" and amidst all the excitement, you may well have found yourself too busy to fully take in the signifcance of Nelson Mandela's Nobel Peace prize win or the absolutely batshit timing of The Queen's letter to Charles and Diana urging them to get on the divorce train. We cover both events in this show which probably isn't Classically Festive, in the truest sense of the word - but it's what happened in 1993 and there's not much we can do about it now.

Send us a message (but a nice one, not one like the Queen sends) by email on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or through one of the following social media accounts...

Some previous Decembers covered by the podcast include December 1989, in which Pete Waterman postponed his wedding and December 1987 in which Eastenders trialled a live segment in a New Year special. Both are ridiculous in their own way. There's also the last three episodes on the feed.
