• Episode 72: What Causes Toxic Positivity?
    Jun 25 2025

    Hey, Friend,

In last week’s episode, I compared positive thinking to toxic positivity. With one, there is an attempt to look on the bright side while acknowledging some big feelings that need attention. With the other, the quest for positive thinking feels forced while feelings are discounted or ignored.

In today’s episode, we uncover some of the possible causes of toxic positivity. If you have ever been accused of toxic positivity or if you have experienced this approach in others, this episode is for you.

    I pray this blesses you!

  • Episode 71: Positive Thinking vs. Toxic Positivity
    Jun 18 2025

    Hey, Friend!

I think we all understand the importance of having a positive attitude. However, in 2005, the term “toxic positivity” was coined to describe someone who has an unrealistic optimism that discounts the presence or importance of emotions.

In today’s episode, I contrast having a positive attitude with toxic positivity and it all boils down to how we acknowledge, validate, and own our emotions and the emotions of others.

    I pray this blesses you!

  • Episode 70: Your Call to Action to Developing Adaptability
    Jun 11 2025

    Hey, friend!

I think this is a great way to end this three part series on adaptability - with a CTA for you to start flexing that muscle.

The only way to become more adaptable is by practicing. And as you commit to practicing adaptability in one area, if you want to take your commitment to the next level, engage a trusted friend or mentor to hold you accountable.

Ask this trusted person to share with you times when they have seen you struggle to adapt. Let them know that you are ready to become more adaptable.

    And remember the motto:

    Make a plan.

    Work the plan.

Don’t fall in love with the plan.

Coming up with a Plan A, a Plan B, and a Plan C gives you a greater chance for success because you have come up with three options that are acceptable to you. And if all else fails, pivot. Adapt. Look for the learning opportunity.

    You’ve got this!

    I pray this blesses you,

  • Episode 69: What Happens When We're Not Adaptable?
    Jun 4 2025

    Hey friend!

In last week’s episode, I talked about the importance of adaptability and in true confession, I didn’t start working on flexing my adaptability muscles until I was in my 40’s when I started traveling outside of the U.S.

In today’s episode, I explore what happens when we are not adaptable. If you see yourself in some of the characteristics I describe, here’s the good news: the ability to adapt is not a personality trait, it is a skill that you develop with practice. It is a muscle you flex.

Next week’s episode will be your call to action for developing adaptability. I you like this series on adaptability, please consider leaving a review. It really helps others find the podcast.

    I pray this blesses you!

  • Episode 68: How Adaptable Are You?
    May 28 2025

    Friends,

In today’s episode, I share my motto for adaptability:

    Make a plan.

    Work the plan.

Don’t fall in love with the plan.

I confess, I was not at all adaptable for the first 19 years of my life. In fact, my adaptability skills were not really tested until I was in my 40’s and started traveling to other countries. It was then that I learned that adaptability is a skill that I needed to learn to develop. The question I learned to ask myself in situations that called for adaptability is this:

Are you going to freeze or are you going to flex?

I learned that the only way to flex those muscles was to develop them. It takes practice to be adaptable, especially when true adaptability means making the pivot with a good attitude.

    I pray this blesses you!

  • Episode 67: What Motivates You?
    May 21 2025

    Hey, Friend!

In today’s episode, I contrast Intrinsic Motivation with Extrinsic Motivation. In one, you do something because you find it enjoyable. In the other, you do something for the external reward or to avoid the punishment.

Although one is not better than the other, and they often work in tandem, Intrinsic Motivation is usually more sustainable and engaging.

Then, I share 12 ways you can help yourself become more motivated.

    I pray this blesses you!

  • Episode 65: The Coach Approach to Balancing Thoughts and Feelings
    May 7 2025

    Hey, Friend!

In last week’s episode, I contrasted thinkers (people who trust their thoughts more than their feelings) with feelers (people who trust their feelings more than their thoughts). One operates more from the head; the other operates more from the heart.

The truth is, we need to be able to do both, to integrate head and heart. When we can do this, then thinkers can lean into their emotions as valid pieces of information while feelers can learn to view their emotions through the lens of logic and reasoning.

In today’s episode, I share the Coach Approach to balancing thoughts and feelings. This bridges the gap between the head and the heart and can create a fuller, more nuanced approach to life.

    I pray this blesses you!
