• Minisode 650: Letting Go & Learning the Practice of Detachment
    Jan 3 2025
In this minisode, we’re diving into a topic that hits close to home for so many of us (me too!): letting go of control and surrendering outcomes. If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in the cycle of overthinking, micromanaging, or gripping too tightly to people or situations, this episode is for you. Together, we’ll explore why control can feel so comforting, yet so exhausting, and how we can begin to release it in ways that empower, rather than paralyze, us. Because this is an enormous topic for me in my own healing and growth, I got the word “surrender” tattooed on my arm in my own handwriting in 2016. How much energy do you spend trying to control situations, people, or outcomes that are simply out of your hands? This episode is an invitation to rethink the way we approach control and surrender. We’ll walk through the telltale signs of over-control, the fears that drive it, and tangible steps to cultivate detachment without giving up on what matters most. What you’ll hear: We often try to control out of fear, a need for certainty, or an ego-driven desire to get things “right” or “better.” Signs of over-control include exhaustion, strained relationships, and difficulty asking for help. Recognizing where control is sneaking in is the first step to release it. Reflection prompts such as Where are you gripping too tightly—work, relationships, parenting, or personal goals? (plus more examples) Control is often an illusion—we can influence outcomes but not guarantee them. Surrender is not giving up—it’s trusting the process while staying committed to what matters. What detachment is and isn’t. FIVE tangible practices for you to use starting now. Surrendering frees up energy for what you can control—your actions, mindset, and attitude—while creating space for unexpected beauty in life. “The most beautiful things often come when we release the grip and allow space for the unexpected to come to life.” Resources from this episode: Sign up for our free group coaching calls coming up in January Sign up for my email list Book recommendations: I love a good personal development book, and you do too, right? • Minisode 644: 10 ways we take things personally, when we shouldn't (Part 2)
    Dec 6 2024
I’m so glad you’re here for this second part of our mini-series on not taking things personally. A couple of weeks ago, in Episode 640, we explored how taking things personally shows up in our lives—whether in work settings, relationships, or daily interactions. Today, we’re continuing the conversation with actionable strategies to help you shift your perspective and build emotional resilience. Think of these as tools for setting boundaries, reclaiming your narrative, and staying grounded when life feels a little too personal. Let’s dive in! What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Recognizing Your Personal Stories: Learn how to identify and reframe the assumptions and beliefs that might be causing unnecessary emotional reactions. Building Emotional Space: Discover simple breathing and visualization techniques to create mental distance and regain control over your reactions. Strengthening Self-Worth: Find out how tools like mantras, affirmations, and reflective practices can help you fortify your sense of self Shifting Perspective: Explore creative ways to step outside of your immediate emotions and see situations from a neutral or detached point of view. Celebrating Your Growth: See why reflecting on small wins can create big shifts in how you respond to challenging situations over time. Taking things less personally isn’t about suppressing your emotions or excusing poor behavior—it’s about choosing how you want to respond. By consistently practicing these tools, you’ll build stronger emotional resilience and reclaim the narrative around your experiences. If this resonates with you, be sure to check out Part 1 (Episode 640) for more insights and context. And if you’re ready to go deeper into this kind of work, let’s connect!
