  • This Is the Fight Democrats Need To Have
    Apr 18 2025

Donald Trump insists he has the right to render people to a foreign prison even though the courts say otherwise, and Democrats dig in for a critical fight. From El Salvador, Senator Chris Van Hollen briefs Dan on his effort to get answers about Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Then, Jon and Dan look at the latest targets of Trump's retribution tour, most notably Harvard, his threats to fire Fed Chair Jerome Powell, and Elon Musk's ultra-creepy project to populate Earth with a "legion" of his own offspring. Then, Tommy sits down with Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, about how he's trying to push back on Trump's defiance of the courts.

  • Will Trump Send Americans to Foreign Prisons?
    Apr 15 2025

Donald Trump and the president of El Salvador gloat about shipping migrants to a Salvadoran mega-prison, muse about sending American citizens there next, and lie about the court orders they're ignoring. Jon, Lovett, and Tommy break down what it means for the administration to ignore the Supreme Court's order to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the message Trump is sending to student visa holders with the arrest of Rümeysa Öztürk, why Trump's war on the media appears to be succeeding, and reports that the Trump family is teaming up with Binance, the shady crypto platform, on a new money-making scheme. Then, Bloomberg's Joe Weisenthal joins Jon to talk about Trump's trade war, the possibility of a recession, and what might happen next.

  • Trump's Art of the Fold
    Apr 11 2025

Republicans go into full propaganda mode to sell Trump's reversal on tariffs as the culmination of a brilliant master strategy—until Trump himself admits it was just a reaction to the markets freaking out. Meanwhile, in one of his scariest, most authoritarian moves yet, Trump orders investigations into two former aides for the sin of criticizing him and telling the truth about the 2020 election. House Republicans manage to pass the Senate budget resolution, which calls for massive cuts to Medicaid to pay for Trump's billionaire tax cut. And the second act of the Resistance notches some meaningful wins on immigration and Social Security. Jon and Dan discuss why the market turmoil from Trump's tariffs will continue, the next steps for the GOP's budget plan, and how Democrats should be talking about all of it. Then, Dan is joined by physician, best-selling author, and public health expert Atul Gawande to talk about RFK Jr.'s mission to destroy the agency he now runs, and why he forced out the FDA's top vaccine regulator.

This has really helped me cope

I was initially devastated by the election results. But I guess we all need to acknowledge that there is indeed waste in government, and problems with the ingredients in our foods.

All the voters who distrust the media and the government, and don't really care about boring policy debates, now have their wish for change. The only thing that will change their minds back is when they experience the fruits of their votes.

My fellow Americans are about to find out what happens when we cut 2 trillion from the budget so that we can extend tax cuts for billionaires. I guess Americans need a gut punch. I don't think anything else will get through to them.

I am relieved to realize that I can't do a thing to make a difference. Let Trump have his cabinet. Voters have to experience this.

funny, honest with a left lean

long time listener. I appreciate all of the research and commitment to sharing highlights of current political events. I may disagree with giving Harris a pass on Gaza but I agree many world atrocities including Sudan. it is erie how well they predicted Trump as existential threat to democracy, all around the world it seems a rise in far right hate. They're oddly comforting because it's all really scary but they keep us laughing and informed. Traditional news media is boring and too many commercials. I won't be getting simply safe because I like big dogs but I would try Athletic Greens if I had a free sample to try out first, good concept. I prefer those to constant pharma adds. All of us our lucky They're in the trenches for us digging through the grime and worst of politics to give us a wide perspective and not just a blue bubble. #Harris2024 go democracy, be patriots

Love it. Thank for getting to the grit and adding a dash of humor. So tired of the bothsidesism.

Very Funny and Informative

Great guests and discussions. They acknowledge the more liberal bent of the show and that is a-ok. Good alternative to Right Wing Radio/Podcasts and Fox News.

These guys really take the sting out

America is weird and sad in so many ways right now, this team succeeds in making me feel slightly less depressed about it.
