    As a first-generation college student from a low-income background, Jorge faced numerous challenges on his path to higher education. Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, he discovered his love for math and chemistry early on, leading him to pursue chemical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. Despite the hurdles posed by the pandemic, Jorge found a sense of community and support through SHPE, quickly becoming an active member and eventually rising to leadership positions.
