Both the Hamm's and Schmidt's breweries were cranking out beer after prohibition ended, making their wealthy owners prime targets for kidnapping. Alvin Karpis and the Barker gang pulled off both kidnappings, collected the ransom money, and almost got away with it!

The Saint Paul Winter Carnival is a storied tradition treasured across generations of Saint Paulites, tracing is roots back to 1886. The very first winter carnival featured a beautiful ice castle, and that magic has been repeated many times over the years.
