A massively eye opening conversation with the remarkable Sarah Templeton. All about her own experience within the prison system here in the UK as a prison counsellor, running a large team of ADHD diagnosed counsellors and now as the CEO of ADHD Liberty, a charity with the number one goal of fighting for freedom from addiction and crime for ADHDers. We talk about why ADHD is so prevalent in the prison system and the simple steps the government can implement to change this outcome. For far too long we have been left alone to fend for ourselves and to try and workout what we should and shouldnt do and who we can speak to about possible support and assessments. But now we have Sarah and her teams of clinicians to help fight this cause. The task of getting ADHDers in the prison system to get assessed and medicated is not the only way forward. We need to be able to stop ADHDers getting into the system in the first place, and this will be with better understanding of ADHD and access to assessments, medication and support. But as Sarah explains, we need to do much more and do it right at the start....in schools. We talk about how relatively simple it would be to screen for all neurodiverse conditions at different stages of education to enable teachers to implement strategies and also that parents can also look at possible assessments and support from and early age. I don't know where she finds the time, but she is also an author of 3 children's books regarding ADHD.
