He also clarifies the difference between Apostolic Tradition and ecclesial traditions. Lastly, Fr. Mike encourages us to receive with docility the teachings and directives of the Magisterium of the Church, trusting in the authority of the Pope and the bishops. • Day 10: The Apostolic Tradition (2025)
    Jan 10 2025
The Gospel was handed on in two ways — orally and in writing. Both Scripture and Tradition are sources of Divine Revelation. Fr. Mike describes how the first apostles left bishops as their successors, passing down to them their teaching authority, and this apostolic succession is preserved until the end of time. The passing on of the Faith isn’t something reserved for bishops but something we are all called to participate in. Through the Holy Spirit, God’s Word is present and active in the Church today. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 74-79. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. • Day 9: The Fullness of Revelation (2025)
    Jan 9 2025
In our Catechism reading today we learn how out of love, God has fully revealed himself by sending his Son, Jesus Christ who established God’s covenant forever. We also learn that the Son is the Father’s definitive Word, but this Word has not yet been made completely explicit. Fr. Mike explains how private revelations may not claim to add to the Faith and must not contradict the Faith. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 65-73. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. Every Christian needs this

I was baptized Anglican, a cross between Catholic and Protestant. I have leaned more Protestant and gather my learning from all the true trinitarian denominations. I am amazed at this Catechism and have gotten the book too. Every Christian can gain so much understanding from this podcast and the Catechism. And for all the Catholics I have run across who say they are not really being "fed" by the church... we'll dig into the Catechism as an adult and see how much you gain from it!

Wonderful journey begins!

I have been waiting for this to come out ever since I first heard it might be done. The enthusiasm of Fr. Mike Schmitz is perfect to accompany what might otherwise drift into dry pedagogy at times. I find joy in learning about the Catholic faith in many ways by sharing the journey with Fr. Mike. I also trust him to be a conscientious guide who will ensure I consider aspects of the faith that, left to my own reading, I would likely ignore or not realize.

I can't wait to share this journey with other listeners and my mother and I plan to listen each day and reflect on what we learn.

What a great way to start 2023!

Cradle Catholic for 58 years Learning Anew

I'm learning so much about the Church that I didn't learn in my years of Catholic school. I'm so glad I decided to listen to my twin sister and start this journey. It is increasing my faith and explaining so much about the Church that I have always loved. I restarted the Bible in a Year as well which has made it even better.

The only drawback is the rapid speech of Fr. Mike so I have to stop and relisten as I take notes. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Today is day 88 and my audible app only goes to day 87 so the app isn't getting the updates. I'm having to go to Youtube to get today's excerpt. It happened last week, as well.

Thank you Fr. Mike and Ascension Press for this amazing resource. I'm praying for you as you are praying for me!
