  • Megafires from a Permaculture Perspective – Epi-3610
    Jan 15 2025
Today, Matthew Trumm of Treetop Permaculture joins me to discuss mega fires and real solutions. We’ll cover how poor forest management, like leaving debris behind, creates tinderboxes, and how turning it into biochar or using prescribed burns could help. Matthew will share insights on using earthworks, small ponds, and hydrated landscapes to reduce fire risks, even in dry areas. Plus, we’ll explore land restoration after fires and why practical solutions matter more than political blame. Don’t miss this one! • The Coming Underground Meat Industry – Epi-3609
    Jan 14 2025
Today we discuss The Coming Underground Meat Industry and how inflation and regulations are driving small producers to the gray market with quail, chickens, and more. Learn how and why producers are adapting even on small properties. As inflation drives up the cost of meat and regulators make it harder for small producers to sell legally, a growing number of people are turning to the gray market. This isn’t just about survival; it’s about resilience, innovation, and finding ways to provide local, high-quality food without jumping through endless bureaucratic hoops. In this episode, we’ll explore the types of animals best … Continue reading →

  • 2025 is a Sh*t Show Already – Epi-3608
    Jan 13 2025
2025 is a new year and new years have always been times of the promise of something better. They also even when they deliver drastically let down the overly optimistic. This one though is already a total shat show! We have Trump talking about taking over the Panama Canal, Canada and Greenland, rampent incompetence in California as it literally burns to the ground and a ton more. Today we look at all of that plus some interesting gun polls I have been running on X, why Bitcoin haters are “Bitcoins intrinsic value”, Zuckerberg has found free speech religion and more. … Continue reading →

So Practical, You'll Forget it's About "Survival"

It's not an exaggeration when the show's description says "if times get tough, or even if they don't." Host Jack Spirko doesn't have to talk about the end of the world to teach you about things that will actually make a difference in a crisis. Things like getting in better physical shape, building real relationships with your neighbors, planting a garden, or getting out of debt and starting a savings account will all improve your life today.

Jack's brand of common sense, no excuses tough love may even be more difficult for some self-proclaimed preppers than for "regular people." He's quick to point out consumerist habits that make us feel good, but don't actually help.

The show now has a panel of experts, interesting interviews, and great production value. It's improved so much over the past 13 years, starting when Jack recorded the show in his car on his way to the corporate job he had at the time.

That's right, 13 years! I think it's called The Survival Podcast because it pre-dates the term "prepper." It has certainly matured over time, and I highly recommend it. I can think of very few people I'd rather have on my side in an actual crisis, natural or man-made... or on a random Tuesday.

“Build it and they will come”

Jack truly cares and has built a community of like minded individuals that are dedicated to improving their quality of life. Survival is just a byproduct of living the best most productive life you can every day and The Survival Podcast is the embodiment of this philosophy.
