    Episode 48 of “These Are Your Neighbors” features Kris Mount. Kris is known for impacting people through his work at the Abused Adult Resource Center. Through multiple leadership roles in our Bismarck, Kris continues to serve others, making him a changemaker in the community.

    Kris Mount works for the Abused Adult Resource Center as the Coordinator of The Family Safety Center which oversees supervised visitation and exchanges for parents and their children. He also Coordinates and facilitates the SAVE Program (Solutions to Alleviate Violent Encounters) which is a 24-week program for men who have been convicted of domestic violence and other charges related to partner abuse.Kris is a member of the Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus, the Board of Directors of Dakota West Arts Council, the Board of the North Dakota Kennedy Center, and enjoys spending 3 weeks each Summer operating the box office for Sleepy Hollow Theatre and Arts Park.Kris has been active politically as an Election Judge, the Chairperson of District 35 Democratic-NPL and in 2022 ran for a seat in the North Dakota House of Representatives. He plans to run again in 2026.Kris returned to school and graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work from Minot State University in 2021.

    Kurt Snyder began his career at the University of Mary where he received hisbachelor of science in addiction studies in 1998. He has worked in the addictionfield since 1999 and has served as executive director of the Heartview Foundationsince 2005. He is a Licensed Addiction Counselor, Licensed Social Worker andholds a master’s degree in management. Snyder is a graduate of the AddictionTechnology Transfer Center Advanced Leadership Institute. In 2011, hespearheaded the effort for Licensed Addiction Counselors to gain direct access tothe North Dakota Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) and NorthDakota became the first and only state to allow Licensed Addiction Counselorsdirect access to this tool and better monitor their patient’s controlled substancehistory. Along with positions as an advisory board member for the Mountain WestAddiction Technology Transfer Center, past chairman of the North Dakota Boardof Addiction Counseling Examiners, and past chairman of the North BehavioralHealth Planning Council, Snyder is a founding board member for the North DakotaProfessional Health Program, the monitoring program for impaired physicians.

    Snyder has been awarded the 2017 University of Mary Presidential Leadership Award, the 2023 Walt Odegaard Leadership Award from NDANO, and most recently was honored by Governor Burgum and First Lady Kathryn Burgum with the Phoenix Award at Recovery Reinvented. The phoenix is famous for rising from the ashesto be born again and is a testament to second chance opportunities and renewal.Kurt has been is recovery from addiction since June of 1993.

    Emily Yanish is currently the Development Director for Youthworks, and a LicensedProfessional Clinical Counselor. She received her undergraduate degree from St. OlafCollege in 2003, and her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the Universityof St. Thomas in 2007. Emily has been employed with Youthworks since December2007, and has enjoyed numerous roles at the organization, including Coordinator for theShort Term Care and Assessment Center, Family Counselor, Program Manager, and nowDevelopment Director. Her work entails raising awareness and support for the work thatYouthworks does throughout North Dakota. Emily is married to her husband Lance, and together they have two children.
